well, my i set my son up with a p133, runs win95, added a 10 gig HD for cheap, added 32 meg memory (total 48 megs) (cheap) - guess what -
he can surf the net just fine
he has close to a thousand mp3's on his machine, and they sound great (no stuttering at all, while he surfs the net and does IM)
he can do his homework wordprocessing just fine.
i've got sound forge and photoshop (professional editions) on there, and he likes to fool around with them.

it works great as a general purpose computer - he does not do hard core gaming on the machine -

you can do alot with a "slow" machine without much memory.
heck - i remember when it was a "fast" machine with lots of memory!

Haha, actually I have the same system, except I have 64MB EDO Ram and a P166mhz cpu. I am surfing the web right now with that system.

I have Windows 98 on it and it really slows it down compared to win95, but I am too lazy to format and reinstall win95.

Had a Pentium 90@100, 48ram, 1 GB, 4x CD. Sold it on eBay for $20. Packing was so much work, I wouldn't have done it again.

That's plenty of horsepower to do a lot of things!

My P150 is running Debian and performing the following :

SAMBA file server with 50Gs of mp3s.
DJBDNS caching nameserver.
PURE-FTP for remote file transfers.

Until my mom FUBARed it, my old P200 MMX was running mandrake 8.1 and acting as a router. Pretty simple to set up really... Just had to add an email server and maybe a DNS server too...
