Dad bought a '69 tempest ragtop w/ 4 speed manual and had to sell it as mom could not drive a stick, ended up with a '70 LTD.

Dad had a 1948 straight 8 Pontiac, from there he went to a '57 Chev then to a '63 Chev and a '71 Chrysler. I lost track after that. By that time I already had several of my own.

After the Omega crapped out then they bought one of these gems.

Sharp right? Another coupe and the windows didn't roll down in the back. They just hinged outward at the rear about two inches like a vent window. Pulled in 0 fresh air when my old man lit up his cancer sticks and I would choke to death. Fuck I hated that car. My brother used to call it the Valdez because it leaked as much oil as Exxon's ill-fated supertanker that ran aground.

My Mom had one of these pieces of shit, she bought it in 1978 or thereabouts. It was a diesel and this was both the first and last Oldsmobile she ever bought.

After that was one of these which wasn't a bad car actually.

And I was out of the house by the time she bought this.

Mine manly drove full size GM cars. My mother had a sky blue Pontiac Parsienne (2dr) of early 80s vintage and my dad a red mid-70s Malibu Classic Station wagon. That thing was HUGE, and even had the backward-facing rear bench seat and the 350 double barreled v8. The first was sold in a divorce and the second had its transmission crap out a few years later. They weren't great cars by modern standards, but they had loads of character and interior space. Leg room FTW!

The car I learned to drive on sometime around 1999-2000 was a 1987 Caprice Classic, 4dr, 5.0L v8. I own the car now, and it still runs, but I don't drive it much anymore until I can save to get the front window fixed, as well as the AC, which is very necessary to have in the South. Long-term, it will get a full restoration once the spousal unit lands a job. Until then, I turn a wrench every few weekends when I can to keep the old girl running.

Six cars in 40 years. Always bought American. They still have the last one, and are looking to get another one. Might not be American this time.

about 1969 Pontiac two door. I think a Le Mans. Dark vinyl seats to burn your ass on in the summer. Apparently one cylinder had no compression when they finally got rid of it, but it drove just fine on 7 cylinders.

1979 Lincoln Zephyr four door. Light vinyl seats which would still burn your ass in the summer. Going on vacation in the back in-between my two older sisters with our dog on our laps. I remember driving it as a teenager and the low beam headlights would go out for no reason. So I'd have to drive with the high beams.

1986 Dodge Lancer five door hatchback.
about 1992 Saturn four door.
about 2000 Saturn four door.
about 2002 Dodge Stratus Sedan.

Of the vehicles I remember the Models of:

1973 Ford Maverick-Bought Brand new, 2 weeks later we ran into a couple deer totaling it.

1971 AMC Matador Station Wagon-Replaced the Maverick. Was a good car until the winter of 74-76(one of those 3 years) when my Mom drove it off the side of the road and in the attempt to get out of the ditch high centred it on the transmission. It still ran for awhile(some number of months IIRC), but it was flakey.

1976 AMC Matador 2 Door Sedan- Bought Brand New. Unlike the Station Wagon which seemed well built, this Matador was a piece of crap. We lived in Northern Alberta at the time, which meant some travel by gravel roads. This car was falling apart(slight exaggeration, became squeaky as hell and had panels rattling) within a few weeks.

1976 Chrysler Newport Custom 2 Door Sedan- Approx 6 months after getting the Matador, my Dad took us all to the big city of Edmonton and bought this car. It was simply the best car of the bunch by a long shot. Everything was padded or carpeted, the ride far superior, the seats were so comfy, there were armrests, an 8 Track, and all around it was something that left a big impression on me. He kept it for 10ish+ years, eventually, after I had moved out on my own, replacing it with a Hyundai Stellar which being a Pre-Y2K Hyundai doesn't require much description....

One of these:

My dad would make me and my brother ride in the back. Safety was not a concern back then.

Back then that was pretty sexy. In retrospect though, those wheels seem so rinky dinky and just don't seem to fit.

My parents drove basically junk through the 80's and most of the 90's. They had a 79 F150, and a 78 Pontiac Grand Prix for the longest time. Right up until basically everything rotted off the Pontiac (rust). That got traded to an early 80s cougar. The truck suffered the same fate and got traded to a 90 Chevy G20 conversion van.

I don't remember why and when, but at some point they bought a new 94 Ranger, which lasted a few years till I totalled it.

Then my dad got a 98 Ranger.

My mom got rid of the van and took over her mom's 90-something Buick Century when she died.

The Ranger became a money pit, and my dad went and bought a new 2010?(whatever the last year they made them was) Ranger. And my mom replaced the rotted out falling apart century with a mercury Milan, not sure what year.

And that where they are now.

My dad had a bunch of bad ass cars pre-kids, such as a 440 'Cuda, and some sport bikes. Not sure about my mom.

Kinda funny to think how my kids may eventually think back to the cars I've had. These damn things don't even drive themselves!

In no particular order (and I am missing a couple):

And my favorite*:

*This was first my Grandmother's, then my parents drove it, then it went into storage and turned into my first car. Only the hood and the color differ from this pic as the car is now.
