I laughed so hard I almost spit out my drink as I read this. I would take a small civic ot protege over your s10 any day. The ignorance on these forums is stunning. Good reading:

"March 15, 2005

Reuters, "GM's Blazer Ranked Deadliest Car on U.S. Roadways"

The two-door Chevrolet Blazer from General Motors Corp. has the highest driver death rate of any passenger vehicle on U.S. roadways, a research group with links to the insurance industry said on Tuesday.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (news - web sites) based that conclusion, and its embarrassing result for the world's largest automaker, on an extensive study of passenger vehicles from the 1999-2002 model years.
The study focused on the rate of driver deaths in various types of crashes, including both single- and multiple-vehicle accidents.
The overall driver death rate, for 199 models studied during the 2000-2003 calendar years, was 87 per million registered vehicles annually, the Insurance Institute said.
Weighing in at more than three times the overall rate, the Insurance Institute said the two-door, two-wheel-drive Blazer -- a midsize sport utility vehicle -- had an average of 308 driver deaths per million.
The Blazer also had the highest rate of driver deaths in rollover accidents at 251 per million."

Maybe, but you also have to add in the nasty habit to rollover during a crash. Together you get the deadliest car on the road.

Edit: Don't get me wrong, the car is fine if it meets his needs. But making a choice b/c it if "safer" then the Asian cars (when it isn't) then spouting inaccurate accounts of how crumple ones actually work is asinine.

90,000 miles and still going strong. I swear, Honda's seem to last forever (my Grandmother also owns a Honda, same deal).

My first car still too.

90k is pretty damn low...

I drive a 96 civic lx. 145k. Come on baby, take me to 200k!

Ok, 92k.
It was my aunts, and she really didn't put a lot of miles on it.
She was in Washington DC most of the cars life and all she really ever drove was to the train station like 5 minutes away for work (among the other things she drove to like to get food, etc...)

For as long as I've been driving it it's been a good car.
How much have you had to replace in it yet (besides oil and that sort of thing)? Is it all original still?

I have everyone here smoked for lowest miles on a Honda. 10,000 miles on a 1986 DX (about 6 months ago), it has 17,000 miles on it now. Only thing ever replaced so far were the tires. Perfect shape

Bought mine a little more than 4 yrs ago. First car. First job. Strapped for cash. It had 88k already. Did the usual maintenance and oil changes. Been going great until this year. Had to replace tires, radiator, and catalytic converter. Transmission still behaves kind of funny. Just hoping to take it to 200k before I have to get another car.

Me > you.

Yeah before you post something like me>you you should go out and buy a competitive bike. 2002 Suzuki GSXR1000 here with race computer exhaust and headers. It made a true 150RWHP on the dyno and weights quite a bit less than yours (thanks in part to the titanium exhaust)

Can't say a 02 GSX1000 is 'competitive' today, but should be faster than a 3.2 sec 0-60 supercars today can pull off.

Still I don't get many bike guys that proclaim bike > car no matter what. Not really the best dating vehicle, not good in less than perfect weather, you are screwed in rain you didn't expect.

Rain isnt that bad on a bike. I go out in rain, not to ride hard, but it has never stopped me from going out. You just need decent gear to protect yourself and its fine.

Believe me, the GSXR1000 is very competitive, I actually just sold it and its been converted to a race bike and its doing extremely well. (Winter here so cant ride)

Driving a 1995 Honda Accord wagon, 5MT, 2.2L I4 with 96k miles on it right now.

But I've been looking for something else, hoping to sell off the Accord before it hits 100k miles. I grew up in big cars, as my family owned nothing but Crown Victorias and Grand Marquis, one of which became my first car. I've got a sort of natural affinity for the big squishy sedan. I'd like another Grand Marquis or a Crown Vic, but I don't know if I can really justify the fuel economy and ancient platform. At least something like an Impala is a bit more modern, and can pull over 30mpg on the highway.

For the record, my car is a family car. There are rarely ever fewer than three people in that car. I'm not really looking for something with a seat-of-your-pants type of drive or a neck snapping motor. Just something smooth and quiet, where the kids will drift off to sleep in the back seat when we travel. With a column shifter so maybe my wife can scoot over and keep me company..

Heh, I'm afraid I cheat a bit in the sig - my car is nowhere near road-worthy; or even able to move under it's own power. I've got a few pics of the rust somewhere though.
