What is your budget? Either a 9700np, 9800np, or fx5800 offer the best price/performance. 9600 pro does also, but it's not going to give you a big enough jump from your ti4200.

What about Half Life 2 and Doom3 that everyone is saying will be better with a DX9 card?

Hmm well, yeah they'll play better on a good dx9 card, like a 9800 as opposed to a ti4200. But it's going to run a hell of a lot worse on a dx9 card like a fx5200 as opposed to that ti4200. We won't know how these games are going to run on the dx8 cards (or any card for that matter), so for many it's better to wait. An upgrade at this point may be very unecessary.
Your Ti4200 is fine for most games. I`d upgrade early next year if i was you.Originally posted by: modedepe

M4H that is. Don't buy into "needing" a DX9 card, and nothing less than a 9800 Pro / 5900 will make enough of a difference in gaming from your 4200 to be worth buying.
So your saying that FX5200 is better than a Ti4600 just cos it supports most of the DX9 features?Originally posted by: McArra
Starting from a 9500Pro if using AA and AF the difference is huge between a DX9 card and a 4200Ti.

Just cos a card supports DX9 doesnt make it a better card than one that doesnt.
Just a query, are the FX5900s true DX9 parts?
I mean the FX5200/5600/5800s supported every DX9 feature, apart from displacement mapping, which is required for by the basic DX9 spec.
Did nVidia add the support for displacement mapping to the FX5900?
