what causes HDD LED to stay on constantly?

I've had this problem for a few weeks now, it started to bother me, so I just disconnected the wire. But I would like to get it to work sometime. Has this ever happened to anyone?

ur positive the wires are connected correctly? the white wire is the ground, unless it's black and red, then i think the red is ground. does your HDD have a LED of its own on the bottom, check if that's always on. if it's not always on then the LED connection from the case is wrong...

The only time I had that to happen was when something was writing to the drive. I think it was when I had Office 97 installed and fastfind was doing the writing.

1) You plug'd the cable in backwards.
2) The header is faulty.
3) The cable is faulty.
4) Your drive is sending a bad signal.
5) You actually have something running across your IDE bus 100% of the time (2HDs/CDROM/DVD/etc...)

I had this problem with my christmas tree with one chain always being on until I put in one of thems special blinkers, then the whole line blinked like it was supposed to and I was happy.

Could be that the transistor on the motherboard that drives the LED is shorted.

I remember something about a rare MB/Drive/OS combo bug that sometimes did this

this happened to me when i connected the hd led to the motherboard the wrong way. positive side to the neg and visa versa. try flipping the connector from the hd led.

Had you disconnected it recently and maybe just didn't reattach it properly or did it start doing this all by itself?
