Of course, you realize that artificial tanning carries a higher risk of skin cancer than tanning under natural sunlight.

Artifical tanning increases your exposure to UV light in a shorter amount of time. If you got the same amount of UV light from a natural or artifical source, one wouldn't increase your chances of cancer over the other.

Actually it is not the ozone you are smelling. It's the oxidised by products of it. O3 is very unstable and wants to break anything down and fast. The bleach like smell is not ozone but chlorine and bromine from the reaction of bodily fluids in the mucous membranes which are salty in nature.

Tanning lamps produce negligible amounts of ozone. UVC lamps (short Hg arc to be specific) produce a lot of ozone.

Cheers!

Hey, I know that plently of guys do the whole tanning booth thing... but orange is not the skin's natural color. You could get the same result bathing in cheetos.

burnt flesh.

tanning-bed-orange is not the skin's natural tone...but if you insist...go buy youself some cheetos and roll around in them. It's cheaper and safer I bet the ladies would go for the cheetos smell over the "human rotisserie" smell.

Actually, you got it right. But came to the wrong conclusion. It's the higher intensity that increases the risk of damage. If you don't understand this, go outside with a magnifying glass. focus the sunlight on part of your body (making sure the entire shadow of the magnifying glass falls on your body). You've actually decreased the total amount of sunlight hitting your body because some hits the sides of the sunglass. But, the skin damage should be obvious if hold the sunglass there long enough. Increasing the concentration causes more damage.

Actually, they're working on studies that use dogs to detect cancer. So it might actually smell.

a "tanned" look, or a "tanning bed" look? There's a big difference. Tanning bed=funny looking.
