Greetings,
I'm after a new credit card, I currently have a Mastercard with a rather high APR as I got it when I had no credit. I have been looking at American Express Blue as it has some good security features ( I got frauded from using my CC on a "secured" website ). Also from what I hear, they have really good customer service. Only thing is, I've read their price matching feature is gone. I know citibank/citigroup/whatever you want to call them offers a card with a similar pricematching sceme, but the other benefits of the card don't sound good.

Anyway, crap on the cards that you don't like, tell me which ones you do like, either way its appreciated.

Discover card usually have some good benefits and a good rate. They give you cash back on purchases too.
Only problem is, not everyone accepts Discover.

I have an MBNA MasterCard and an Amex Blue - overall I'm happy with both.

Do NOT use Capital One......worst card I ever had, customer service is rude and you will get endless sales calls.

EDIT: If you are planning on transferring balances from other cards, make sure the new one has no balance transfer fees.....most do hiden in the fine print.

I stumbled across this over the weekend

They require you to mail them a pay stub to prove your income, which is probably a lot of why their rates are so damn low.

I'm thinking about applying for it, but I don't know if my credit score is good enough (660 something, I've only had one card for not quite 1.5 years).

I'll second the Discover card. I almost never carry a balance from month to month, so I can gain a little positive ground on the cashback bonus. I use it for almost everything (gas, groceries, etc) to maximize the cashback. I usually get a check for $75 - $125 at the end of the year.

They have a neat seccurity feature for online transactions as well - Discover Deskshop. You download a neat little java-app that generates a one-time-use number for that transaction only. This way, if someone hacks a site and gets your info, the CC number they harvest will be useless and your REAL CC# is still safe.

capital one does suck... i signed up for the capital one platinum and i received the regular capital one card, which i didn't want b/c it was the same as the other visa i had. i wanted the platinum b/c of lower apr, but they sent me the regular captial one card instead. customer service was rude to me too when i wanted them to explain to me why i was given the regular card.

i would get a amex and have either a visa/mastercard. if you have both of those, you're pretty much set. don't get more than 3 b/c it looks bad on credit report. don't carry a balance if possible but if you must, make minimum payments. don't sign up for like 3 credit cards at a time... (every credit check goes on your credit report and it doesn't look good to have many inquiries at one time). hope this helps...

Capital One sucks the big one unless you have no or bad credit (then they're your friend - they'll approve anyone if you know what to do).

My vote goes for the CitiBank Dividend Platinum Select, no annual fee, low APR (with good credit score) and 1% cash rebate on all purchases.

If you'd like to see your credit report and find out your credit score before applying (which is a good idea) then I encourage you to order this for $12.95 it's coming directly from EquiFax which is one of the 3 major credit bureau's.

Capital One does suck and all of our CO cards have unauthorized purchases on them (regularly) :| If you want REALLY good service, the best online payment and management system, and a decent 9.9%, try Juniper Bank

another vote for the citibank dividend platinum select mastercard. true 1% cash back beats out discover cashback. i never carry a balance on any cards so i cant say much about APRs and whatnot. i dont really take advantage of any other features of the cards (except amex blue bvg when it was around) but cashback is good. one caveat about the citi card is they cut you $100 checks once you accrue that much, which means you'd have to spend $10,000. discover now lets you take out $20 at a time.

and for the record, my first credit card when i turned 18 to start building a history was capital one and ive never had a problem with them so far...

I'm going to say simply....VISA or Mastercard. Just be sure to read all the fine print and don't get one with a annual fee. You should be able to build your credit over time and not have to pay that crap.

I just got Blue from AmEx. It looks like a pretty decent card, but I don't know where all it's accepted. I do like the traveler's checks that AmEx offers though.

Actually, if you do a lot of online shopping, I heard Discover is the most accepted card for online purchases

It's called Amex Private Payments but they're not the only cc which offers this functionality, off the top of my head CitiBank and MBNA also offer this.

MBNA has a one-time credit card generator written in flash (not Java like the discover one, not that it matters) that accomplishes the same thing -- tell it how long you need it for (1-12 months), how much the maximum balance should be, and it generates one for you and tracks it.

You probably don't want to use one-time numbers for everything though, there was another thread here about how somebody bought tickets to a ballgame with a one-time number and was fretting about whether he'd be able to show them his "real" CC when he went to pick up the tickets.
