Yeah I have that too on my 8290s...on my 3rd phone now, glad TMobile replaces them free. I really like the phone in just about every other way (especially its intuitive functionality) - if it had a color high-res screen and didn't have these problems it'd be perfect.

You could have claimed a new phone through insurance.

That's what I did and got my phone for $30.

Sanyo 6200 I like it, nice and slim, good battery life. I think they have switched to the 6400 now though, same phone as far as I'm concerned though.
Oh yea, I forgot, it does get a bit warm after about 10min or so, but I don't find that much of a deal.

I never really understood the point of a color cellphone with a wallpaper and the ability to take pics since it just eats into your batteries

Motorola v70 with T-Mobile, I love the phone...not a whole lot of features, but I have a PDA for that...it looks great, does it's job. But it's a little quiet.

<-- v60i owner and loving it. with verizon.

-no probs with the ear phone.
-timer? there's a timer on all my calls. i see it when i hang up and i can go back into the "dialed" or "received" call menus and see the call times there
-there's a time stamp on the voice mail. i had to activate it through the voice mail options. it also tells me the phone number it came from too.
-display is pretty clear cut. when its closed the display has the time and date... when its open its like any other phone.
-i slip my nail under the flip when i'm driving but i also have the leather case on which makes it easier to flip open
-i agree on the crap ass antenna, and i've had a prob a few times on getting the darn thing hooked up to the charger. but at least it will say "charger connected"

3390. Its really good for reception. It gets reception where other Nokia phones don't. Yes, I know it's old but my mom is too lazy to switch plans.

LG VX 4400

This is my first cell phone, and so far I am pretty happy with it. I have to charge it about once every three or four days so I am guessing that is pretty good.

The only thing that really bothers me is that it does not have any games preinstalled, and I have to pay for them if I want them. :|
