When I bought my HD tv, I was able to pick up the local HD channels(ABC, NBC, CBS, etc etc). I did not subscribe to HD service, so I"m not really sure if that was normal.

about 2 months later, the HD channels were gone. no picture at all. did the channels switch, or did my cable company(cox) block it?

Is there a way to find out what channels are my HD channels? it used to be 84, 85, and 106. Is there a list so I can know where to look and check?

also, since I previoulsy had HD, and now it is gone, will getting an indoor antenna help any? if so, any reccomendations?

live in oklahoma.

So I think what happened is you connected your Cable through your Coaxial and then your Cable company blocked it so it doesn't work anymore. I think that's what happened. What you can do since you probably do have a built in tuner, you could get an antenna and hook it up and scan and see if you can get all the HD channels again. HD channels are better if it's over the air because they don't compress it as much.

Try and rescan your channels -- sometimes the cable companies move the Clear QAM channels around

depends on your cable provider. Comcast hasn't reassigned any of mine in the past year. anyway they aren't going to tell you which channels are what because they want you to pay for a box. check AVS for your area.

question: If I am able to get the local channels in HD without any equipment, if I get an antenna, will I be able to get the other channels in HD too? i.e, HGTV, animal planet, discovery, etc etc?

Antenna is only gonna get you over the air broadcast channels. Cable channels require cable (or sat/fios/whatever you have). Animal Planet/Discovery are not free, the networks are.

Cable companies move channels (especially QAM ones) all the time. They are not legally allowed to encrypt ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox and the other OTA channels, so if you get digital cable, your QAM TV can tune them.

My cable company used to have the HD stations in the 84-106 range. They since started moving them so that Fox which is 13 analog has Fox HD on channel 13-1. ABC is 7 and 7-1 in HD etc. Rescan as mentioned.

I have Comcast, and subscribes to the HD service. I get the digital cable box from Comcast, hook it up to the HDTV, done. HD channels are in the 700 range here.

I've tried getting OTA HD channels w/ my kitchen HDTV, sometimes it works, but most of the time it doesn't.
