Robotech

I only have vague memories of the original broadcast, but the series seems so cornball now lol. Currently watching Macross for the first time, and despite what the purists believe, I think Carl Macek did a pretty good job adapting the original.

I'm hearing rumours of a new robotech series being developed. should be interesting.

Generic cartoons(no recurring characters) from the 30s-50s.

Did you ever see the Tex Avery stuff*? Amazing.
---------------
Speed Racer
Star Blazers
Rocky and Bullwinkle

I never cared for the Hanna Barbara stuff as the animation and voices were awful.

Edit: * The non-Warner Brothers Tex Avery stuff

It was easy to adapt granted... imo, however, the main beef purists have with Carl Macek is that rights issues have prevented almost every sequel and one prequel (focusing on the prototype VF-0 being used against the Anti-U.N. forces) from being released in the U.S.

Not only that but if the (languishing in development hell) live action movie was ever made they'd have to do without the brilliant mecha designs from the anime.

Some of the plots (or story elements) have been out there but the Mecha designs by Shoji Kawamori for those series have always been very good to outstanding imo.

I prefer Robotech to Macross. My favorite episode, number 27 I think (Force of Arms?) got re-edited in a way that I thought was much more exciting. It seems like Earth gets wiped out right off the bat anti climatically and they have to fight because why not? Nothing to lose at that point right? In Robotech however they started the battle and kept ramping it up, preferring to save that part at the climax when it packs a devastating punch to the gut.

Tex's stuff was great, Warner and other. Wikipedia has a good list...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_films_directed_by_Tex_Avery

I remember some of them by title, but I'm sure I've seen most, if not all them. If I could have any video collection, it would be unedited classic American cartoons. They've started censoring cartoons in somewhat recent years, and it's bullshit. Leave them alone as a statement of the time they were made. There's enough crap from recent years to keep the sensitive(read pc cunts) entertained.

For new cartoons, I really like Spongebob. Haven't seen it in a long time though.

The original Tom and Jerry. Can't stand the ones they made after that.

I can very much say I did watch all (or almost all) of those original Tom and Jerry toons.
