Our House
Birmingham, AL
2,000 Sq. ft. on 2 main floors, plus full basement and garage, big lot in nice neighborhood
CURRENTLY - $1,190/month (includes principle/interest, PMI, taxes, homeowners insurance)
REFINANCED - $995/month (includes all above)

I love living here. You can get SO much bang for your buck we were able to skip the whole starter home phase and jump straight into a house that we can hopefully be in for a good long while. Twenty minutes to downtown of a major city, 2-10 minutes to any store/restaurant you'd need. Low taxes, but still have very good schools in our immediate area . . . course we don't have kids yet. I just locked into refinancing an hour ago.

Did any of you guys hear me - I said 5000 sq ft for 243K, or about 1500/month in mortgage. That's 48.5 dollars a square foot in the 4th biggest city in America. And it's not uncommon to get prices like that here in Houston. Now everyone comment on your envy of my house, dangit!

Geez.. All you people that can afford nearly 2000$/month homes are really lucky.

Portland, OR

I dunno how big the house is, not terribly big.. 2 bedroom, 1 bath.. It's on an acre though.. We have lots of wildlife.

800$/mo (rent)

Chandler, AZ. I pay $771/month for a 900sq. ft., 2 bedroom apartment. That includes $35/month for the washer/dryer, and $20/month for my cat. So basic rent is $716. It's right next door to Intel. I'm planning to build a house next year.

How do you guys afford some of these rent/mortgages? I make a decent living, and after rent, car, and the rest of the bills, I'm broke. I can't imagine doubling what I pay for rent. I will when I buy a house, but I'll double my income by getting married in Dec. too. I'm assuming you high renters have a dual income family? Or are you making $100K+?

House would be 130K for 1400 sq.ft 3BR, but it's on a double lot which I could sell for 50K alone.

Wouln't know mortgage info because right now I only have $83K(@ $772/mo.) mortgaged since last refinance.

Renting, $1600/mo for a 1100+sqft 2bd/2ba duplex in San Jose, CA. It's a pretty decent price considering the area, and we have a really cool landlord to boot.
