What condiments do you prefer in your ham sandwich?

Its that time of year for the Christmas ham. I am getting one baked for me on the 24th and I usually eat a few ham sandwiches on Christmas eve.

For condiments I usually just put mayo, onions and heinz piccalilli sauce. Sometimes hot sauce as well.

I really recommend the heinz piccalilli sauce. Good stuff.

But I swear that if you add the crunchy ham skin mixed along with the ham meat its pretty damn good.

Thanks, OP, you took me on a nostalgic trip right back to my childhood with the piccalilli reference! :wub:

My Dad's Dad was English, and his Mother was French, twice the reason this was in regular use for sandwiches and such in our household, as chow-chow is essentially the same thing. Piccalilli or chow-chow, we'd have either.

Piccalilli/Chow-chow has that classic sharp/sweet combo, a basic culinary building block which works every damn time.

Which leads me to:

I bought some a while ago, but it bombed for me as a stand alone spread on toast or crackers. And so it remains in my fridge, ignored and. Not considering other uses was obviously a failure of the imagination on my part.

YELLOW mustard, mayo (or Miracle Whip, which ever is in the fridge) romaine lettuce, and cheese...American, swiss, pepper jack, what ever is in the fridge)..and ham...lots and lots of ham. Don't really care what kind of bread...white, wheat, rye, sourdough...

The difference between really good ham, as above, and crappy, tasteless, water-bulked ham is a raging river so wide the staunchly conservative, crap yellow mustard clan can likely not comprehend, let alone cross.
