If you could only choose one console for free and you can't have any others or resell it, which one would it be?

PS3

Plan on getting an HDTV in the next few months. So a BR player + 5 free movies would be a nice start.

Add to that, I have a rather large collection of PS2 games I still play, those would hold me over until the actual decent games come out for it.

Not interested in the Wii, and while the 360 is enticing, I'd play it even less than I currently do my PS2.

PS3 simply because I already have a Wii and Xbox360.

But I would rather take the $500 instead of a PS3.

The only one I don't have is the PS3 so I'll take that

...and the $450 in net profit it would bring on eBay.

You guys are all missing the point of the poll. It says you can only have the one system you choose...no others. So to all of you with Wii60 already...you wouldn't be able to have those if you chose the PS3.

If I could only pick one, it would probably be the Xbox 360. It just caters to the type of game I like more than the other two, in general. I'm a fairly hardcore gamer. I play mostly western RPG's, FPS's, strategy, and action adventure games. Of those genres, the 360 is really the only place to go for western RPG's and strategy games on the console side at the moment, and probably for the foreseeable future. It's also got the FPS genre pretty well dominated on consoles and has a healthy selection of action adventure games, although I think it might lose out to the PS3 in that genre in the long run.

That said, I don't think I'd be disappointed with the PS3 as my only console either. I'm not sure if I could handle the Wii as my only console though. I have one now, and while it doesn't make a bad second console (much like the Gamecube before it), the games that make it worth owning (basically the ones made by Nintendo) are just too few and far between for someone who games as frequently as I do, and the genres that it seems to focus on aren't really my kind of thing.

360. GoW. Until that comes to PC, then I'll have to build another gaming rig.

I'd say it's a stupid offer and buy the one(s) that I want.

I'm happy with my PS3, and I plan to buy a 360 once the 65nm Reliable Edition becomes available. I might pick up a wii at some point if more games come out that I want.

Even after the crucial detail in the OP was pointed out twice people are still missing the point.

What the OP is getting at is, which console is the most desirable when you take price out of the picture. His results are skewed, because you're all picking the one you don't already own. Of course, it's a moot point... price IS an issue for most people, and price IS the cause of the failure of many a promising and technically superior console.

I can't answer the OP's question, because it depends heavily on unknown factors - like what games will come out for each system. Right now, the PS3's biggest problem is game selection (if you take price out of the equation, which the OP is attempting to do). That should change - but if the price continues to slow PS3 sales compared to 360 and Wii, then the game selection on the PS3 may never match the better selling consoles (a situation that Sony fanboys seem to think will never happen, but which Nintendo fanboys know CAN happen, because it happened to Nintendo).

The Wii also lacks a lot of great games, and it is still unclear what sorts of games we can expect in the future and how well they will use the Wii's controls (and has anyone released a game that requires the Gamecube controller yet? It does still exist and it is appropriate for some games). The Wii's online offerings are severely lacking right now, and will never match Xbox Live due to lack of a hard drive (sure, a hard drive accessory is a possibility, but that will still be a hindrance to the availability of downloadable content because it would require an expensive accessory).

The 360 may have a better game selection than the competition, but it is still lacking. Right now though, I'd have to go with the 360.

Give me $600 instead of the PS3 and I'll buy myself a new video card for my PC

Seriously tho I'd take a 360 even though I already own a 360. The games are there, PS3 isn't, and the Wii is not my thing. I can't see myself having fun at all on a Wii (yes I have used one extensively). My neighbor regretts buying a Wii and always wants to play my 360.

I'd take a PS3 80GB, just because I think it would raise the most on eBay. I own a 360 and consider it the best of the bunch.

He said you couldn't sell it.

I picked a ps3 earlier today, but that was only looking at the hardware and not factoring in games. If I actually had the ps3 right now instead of the 360, i'd be barely playing it and pissed that i didn't choose a 360.

D'oh! In that case I'd take a 360 Elite. The games selection is by far the most compelling IMO, nobody has successfully replicated Xbox Live, and the controller is the best out there. In an ideal world the HD optical drive would be built in, but that's a minor point.

I would have to choose the ps3. Even though I already own one. The X360 is really nice, has Halo 3 and a few other exclusives. But to be honest, my friend has a 360, and if I want to play it I can just mooch off him for a bit. The PS3 on the other hand, has a lot of potential and extras, namely Blu-Ray, DVD is dead. Built in wireless, upgradable hard drives, downloadable demos, games, Super Stardust HD rocks..

I don't think the PS3 is that far behind. The 360 has been out for over a year already, and the Wii just appeals to the mainstream crowd.. lower price point and pick up and play games. The PS3 is the most expensive out of all of them, but honestly the people who do think that it is really that expensive just doesn't value the Blu-Ray capabilities, which is fine, its their choice.

I had the Wii at one point, hell, I even camped out to get one on lauch date. But after a few weeks, it just started collecting dust. I might pick one up at a later date, but I'm not sure. It just felt like I was playing last generation games in a new control scheme. And now, there are like... 8 different peripherals coming out for it, steering wheel, balance board, light gun. I don't thing I have enough space for all of that, lol.

Wii, and only for Galaxy and especially Brawl. If I could have only one upcoming game, it would be Brawl.

PS3, I never owned a PS1 or a PS2, so it would be nice to have that kind of backwards compatibility and a free bluray player would be nice.

SOE needs to start churning out some MMORPGs for the thing (PS3 that is).
