So, I have an ASUS Z10PE-D16 WS board, and tried using the microcode-free BIOS. In so far as booting the computer into the UEFI, it worked just fine, and I could confirm there was no microcode loaded. However, any attempt to boot into windows inevitably lead to my machine freezing; the best result (of a dozen or so attempts) was getting to my lock screen background. Manually loading the v3_2cp39.efi driver, or even adding it to load automatically, ended with the same result of a freeze while booting windows. Ultimately the only fix was the load a virgin unmodified BIOS, at which point I could boot fine.

Now, I'm using a pair of 2666v3's, which have all core turbo of 3.2 and max turbo of 3.5, so not really a huge difference, this was more of an experiment (in consideration of maybe someday replacing them with a pair of 2696's for example). Nonetheless, I'm a bit at a loss as to why it didn't work. Has anyone else seen anything similar or have any ideas?

In any event, congrats on all the great work here by everyone.

Bad news you have here. We're considering to use this model (non-WS model have some problems, like 1st CPU DIMMs conflicting with videocard).

Not noticed yet stability issue with -50mV EFI driver. About ratio fluctuation on my system is due to windows. I just revert back to a previous state and idle is x12 and power is about 35W (using randir V3x2_50_vcc.efi and noµcode in windows)

I recently had some, but these are graphics driver restarts and probably related to AMD Radeon drivers. I have unlocked Fury X (initially ASUS Fury STRIX). Maybe it is defective, though older drivers never had any issues... I call this "floating bug" and these are very, very frustrating - as they are very hard to locate.

Interesting thing. With V3x2_50_vcc.efi noµcode and 27 µcode loaded in Windows I`ve got same 33x multiplier (in corona render) as with no µcode (CPU is single 2696v3 C1).

Hmm... perhaps using my board for this is a lost cause then? Honestly, I'm not too worried really, but figured if I could get it working and get the "free" performance gain, then why not.

Is there anyone that HAS gotten Z10PE-D16WS working?

No, with "error:vccin" you have everything as usual (and those 50mV are correctly accounted for). You'll see what happens if you get it working)
randir, so how do we, the owners of ASUS X99-E WS and the like, get it working? Do you have any other suggestions? Or could you make a mod that will work with this particular mobo?

I have also ASUS X99-E WS usb3 with E5-2696v3

Is it possible to mod the bios that will unlock the turbo for all core so it will be no need for the V3 hack?

Damn, this greatly complicates things, we planned to add some money and grab this monster. I

Can you try the following two EFI drivers? There's two modifications of the original V3_2 EFI with some additional msr hackery. I've compiled both v39 and uCode-less versions (I run v39 version on my system). They include 50mV vcore undervolting which is stable for me but may be unstable on your system - if you get any weird crashes, I can recompile without it.

!!! NOTE FOR ANYONE DOWNLOADING THOSE !!!

Use at your own risk! Ensure that your CPU has adequate cooling and monitor temperature if you decide to stress-test it! This breaks all in-system power consumption monitors - do not rely on them!

my 2622v3 run with HT on x32
with this v3x2_50_39_vcc.efi run on x34
but when i try to load it, bios goes halt, after rebooting load normal
to me this is not an option

then i try get a 34 on first v3.efi
Tried all sciff bios methods, but multipiler was the same
  • CPU Current Capability setting set at its maximum of 140%
  • Turbo Mode enabled
  • Long and Short Duration Package Power Limits at 300 (Watts)
  • CPU Integrated VR Fault Management set as Disabled
  • CPU Integrated VR Efficiency Management set as High Performance
  • Limit CPUID Maximum set as Disabled

then i just turned on bios option Xtreme Tweaking ( mobo asus rampage V exteme)
and it helped, now run x34 1.007 V

Wow, amazing! I've got ~4700 in R15 with that (mc39 version).
(Before: ~4500 w/o microcode and 4200 with mc39)

Can you provide source code? I'm interested how did you make it.

Had anyone noticed any instabilities with -50 mV offset driver?
Alas unfortunately I had BSOD during LinX-0.7.1 testing. (v3x2_50_39_vcc.efi)

twice power consumption while idle (about 80W in HWinfo)
Maybe because of I set uncore to max in it, not sure.

Have you tried Throttlestop? If it also doesn't work - you're stuck with experimenting with different BIOS options, as those msrs are completely undocumented by Intel.

Too much undervolt for your silicon) Here's a version without vcore adjustments - https://ufile.io/oxr6j. BTW, this hack sticks pretty hard, so, once you've run this without "vccin error", you'll get it's effect until a hard reset (but not all other adjustments - they're cleared on soft reset). As a side effect, 2nd load of this after soft reset yields "vccin error" - but this just mean that is still present.

Can you provide source code? I'm interested how did you make it.
I was going to start a github project for future modifications - can I use your sources as a base? I've asked you in this thread ~2 weeks ago, but since you didn't answer then - I was too lazy to make a complete rewrite before publishing)

I've read all the pages but did not understand if this is working with other vendors board?
I have GA-X99-Gaming 5 (rev. 1.0) with GIGABYTE UEFI DualBIOS™ with Q-Flash Plus USB port and I want to try to unlock Xeon E5-2630L v3 !
This is the latest stable bios: http://download.gigabyte.eu/FileList/BIOS/mb_bios_ga-x99-gaming5_f20.zip
Can someone give advice what has to be changed with HEX editor, please?
Yes you can ) Here is the instruction http://www.portvapes.co.uk/?id=Latest-exam-1Z0-876-Dumps&exid=threads/what-controls-turbo-core-in-xeons.2496647/page-16#post-38797722

Hello, guys! Here is simplified method to modify Bios on motherboards where
UBU doesn't work, such as MSI and Gigabyte. This method have already proved
itself on several motherboards so I think it will work on most other
boards. The main idea belongs to Dufus and have been creatively reworked by me). I hope he does not mind.
The whole point of method is just to change the name of microcode 306F2 to 506F2 in bios
instead of cutting it. You can do it like this:
-Download HxD hexeditor and open you bios in it.
-press Ctrl-F , choose hex-values
-find all strings 03 F2 06 03 00 , and change to 03 F2 06 05 00,
-again Ctrl-F, find all strings 00 F2 06 03 00, and change to 00 F2 06 01 00
-save new bios, done
-check new bios in UBU, we have to see 506F2 instead of 306F2 in microcode section

Can this string be different?
I am trying to edit latest bios file for Gigabyte GA-X99-gaming 5 motherboard, but this strings are missing!
If I search for F2 06 03 00 i can find one string but the first number is 11, so the hole string is 11 F2 06 03 00 !

I have checked previous bios version and it is the same situation. I can find only one similar and it is 09 F2 06 03 00.

Yes, thats should be right. Try that (F2 06 03 00).

Circling back to this with the Z10PE-D16-WS....

Been running Taichi + 2696v3+v3_1.EFI for a while now with no issue. Trying 2696v3 on the Z10PE-D16-WS now.

First try at manual edit of the bios would not flash. There were 4 instances of F20603, I modified each pair +2/-2:
F20603 -> F20605 +2
F20603 -> F20601 -2
and then again for the 2nd pair (4 bytes edited total)

Flashback refuses (USB plugged in, press flashback button, 5 seconds, then solid). Of course in-BIOS says "integrity check failed", but I expected only flashback to work...

I was able to flashback a known good bios, but not the modified one...

Then ran into the APTIO thing (error replacing file) trying the UBU method. I'm about to try the work-around now (find 2E06A0 + 14 bytes and change the 0x0c flag to 0x08).

Looks like TLN posted a bios for this some time ago, but its expired... So, the hard way it is... Unless someone has the Z10PE-D16-WS bios handy?
