I decided to take the plunge, and need an i860 cooler that performs well, is quiet, and is around $50, ideally. I'd like to take the chip to about 4ghz. What do you guys recommend? That is all!

I personally don't recommend anything under the $60 mark because of lack of performance if you really want to hit 4Ghz.

Prolimatech Megahalem with a good fan is my recommendation.

I had the Coolermast Hyper 212+ and I was using it with an i860 and my temps were reasonable (40C idleish) at an overclock of 4,200 and 1.36V.

Critical thing is to take the time to set it up properly.

I need to get a nice cooler for my i5/750, but I have a Coolermaster Cosmo S case and the side panel fan means max HSF height is 145mm.

Tuniq has a new cooler called the Propeller. http://www.svc.com/cr-pro120-bk.html

It is supposed to be 1156 compatible, but it requires a backplate which it does not seem to come with and I have not been able to find out for certain if the backplate is available yet.

I like this cooler because it is 125mm high and it blows down to cool the VRMs and other power components.

Mega Shadow or not, it must be REALLY cold in that room... 16C on the processor (just over 60F), and 28C on the graphics card. Considering air cooling can't cool below ambient, and the processor will give off some heat even with SpeedStep enabled (running at 1.2GHz in the screenshot), I'm going to guess it's somewhere in the 12-14C (53-57ish F) range in that room.

For anyone who has a height restriction and wants to save a little money, Newegg is putting the Fata1ity version of one of the Zalman coolers on special for $17 today.

This is the shell shocker at 1:00 PST
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...221&Tpk=fs-c77

If you have a 1156 or 1366 socket, you will need to order a bracket for about $10 (Google: ZM-CS5B)

It's a pretty old cooler and it is not the best performing (but it does seem to be decent and people used to use it on the old hot Pentium D chips), but for $17 (+$10) I will give it a try because:

1. The price is right
2. I have height problems (145mm max in Cosmo S)
3. I am red lighting compatible
4. I only do modest over clocking
5. I have other systems I can use it in if I don't like it on my i5/750

So for a lot of you, this probably is not that exciting, but I figured it was worth throwing up.

Oh yeah - this unit is supposed to be almost exactly the same as the CNPS7700-Cu LED :
http://www.zalman.co.kr/ENG/product/Product_Read.asp?idx=158

The difference is that the Fatal1ty one is red and might not have a fan controller (some say it does now) and without a fan controller, the Fata1ity one spins at 2400 RPM and can be pretty loud. Doen't matter to me - I have a couple extra fanmates laying around.

Does the TRUE have a mounting kit for 1156 yet? The description only says 775 and 1366, so I assume you'd have to buy an 1156 kit separately.

are u located in the US?

If you are.. give sidewinders, and jab-tech a direct call and ask.

They will answer all retail box questions.

I second this. Mines only OCed to 3.3 (but with turbo enabled). I get low thirties idle, and this is with one of the springs not producing tension. One of the stoppers for the springs was set too high and the stupid thing couldn't be adjusted without me taking it off : ( It feels solidly and was too lazy to rma it though. 30$ for a hsf that doesn't use pushpins is awesome imo.
