What could cause upload speed loss? Realtek on ASUS MB

I have FiOS 30 down 15 up that works fine for my laptops, but for my gaming/photography desktop, my speed via speedtest.net is now 33.96 down and 0.36 UP!!!! It used to work fine, until last couple of days. My crappy old laptop on wifi is getting 16.04 UP. No other changes to settings or cables have occured that I know of.

I tried uninstalling/reinstalling old drivers for my Realtek network adapter on ASUS P8V77-VLE and updated the BIOS for the motherboard. The build is about 3 months old. I am plugged directly into the FiOS router.

Try a different cable between the computer and the router, and try a different port on the router to see if it makes any difference.

Good thought, but no luck.

I just connected my old laptop to the network cable of my desktop, turned WiFi off, and got 19Mbps upstream.... Argh.

I just retested with my desktop and got 1.9 Mbps Upload. I guess I'll get a separate PCI Network Card, unless there are any other thoughts?

When you used the laptop to test the cable and router port did you turn off the laptop's wireless adapter? And you're sure that the laptop is connecting to your router, not the neighbor's network that uses the same default name?

If you are sure, then yeah I would grab a new NIC. Intel NICs are highly recommended (if a bit more expensive at ~$30).

Before you blame the network card, do some desktop to laptop testing. If the desktop uploads to the laptop normally the issue is something else, IE firewall, antivirus app / etc. Bonus points if you test in a linux boot CD. Realtek is not the best NIC SOC but it generally works.

Check for driver conflicts. Did you installed/used a new external device (e.g. e-sata) recently? You may try disabling in bios all external ports and check. If it doesn't, help then it may by the NIC

to eliminate hardware, boot to a linux live environment and try speedtest.net from there.

Thanks for all the input! Instead of screwing around with lots of testing, I got a $20 Linksys card and now the upload is 20 Mbps! Surfing is noticably better as well. Problem solved. In reality, I should have RMA'd the 3-month old board, but this was much easier.
