AMEX Starwood (most generous card if you know how to use it for vacations.)

US Bank Cash+ (5% in 2 chosen categories--mine are restaurants & movie theaters)
Priceline Visa ( 2% when the other two don't apply)

I used to have an amex card and without a doubt it can offer the best perks but... you can only get those perks if the merchants accept amex.

I used to have an amex card but trying to utilize it at restaurants or other POS places they did not accept AMEX simply due to it having the highest charge to process. So I moved to a mastercard, never looked back. Never had a problem using it either as it is more widely accepted.

I'm thinking about Amex Platinum this year because we're going to travel a lot. But I want a promo with the 100k MR points bonus and/or the annual fee waived. So far, Amex has been unwilling to do that for me on the phone, saying they can't activate the promo without the RSVP code from the targeted mailer. And I know I threw at least 2 of them away, thinking I'd never want a card that cost $450 a year.

Now I'm traveling with a baby and will definitely use up the $200 airline fee credit just checking bags of random shit, would probably use the lounge since we have to plan ahead and get to the airport ass early just in case, and the bonus points would certainly be worth the remainder of that annual fee.

And then I'd probably convert it to a $25 A/F Zync to not lose my rewards points in the 2nd year. Maybe that's why they don't want to give me the bonus. They already know.

None, I use a Visa check card. If I don't have the money, I don't spend it.

I used to be like that, but I decided it was probably a good idea to have more than one card on me. Case in point: This past Saturday I lost my credit card at the bar.

Also, if you're not an idiot with your money, then the "don't spend it if I don't have it" point is moot. You can use your credit card responsibly; keep track of what you're spending, and pay it off in full at the end of the month. If not using a CC works for you, then that's awesome... just saying that you could do it if you wanted.

Or if you're like one of my buddies when we were just out of college, he wanted to have a tab at both the front and back bar of a crowded place. Solution? Two cards!

I put everything on my amazon chase visa. I'd prolly get better roi on a miles card but I never travel. Every time I go to buy something on amazon, I have more than enough points to pay for it

I miss that feature, which MC card is it?

My BoA Visa Signature offers this feature. Very useful for purchasing online from companies that you are not sure about.

I am looking at you Chase. Time to get on board and offer the one time usage feature.

Back to topic. I am using Chase Visa Signature with its 1% on everything and 5% quarterly bonus. I am also using BoA 1-2-3 = 1% on everything, 2% on groceries, and 3% on gas.

Used to have Schwab 2% on everything but it is gone. <sad panda>

I like the ATOT Ultra-platinum Black AmVisMC Gold card.
$100 back for every $10 you spend on anything! Buy movie tickets & get free flights around the world weekly!
(Some here would have you believe, LOL!)

I just have my Debit Card and a Visa from my Credit Union, 1.5% off all purchases, 5% off on gas. Meh, whatever, I don't spend enough money to bother with anything but the Gas.

Honestly, just try posting it about it on their twitter. Chances are you are more likely to get taken care of there.

That is actually really really nice, I've never seen discount straight up, it's always "Rewards" bullshit. And 5% off gas is HUGE.

If no annual fees, I'd switch to that card in an instant.

5% PenFed Gas card
3%/1% Card for Restaurants/Everything else

And I just sign up for anything that offers >$100 Cash-equivalent Bonus. Over ~$1500 last year, and $1000 this.

I got a walmart discover card a few months ago for the free monthly credit score. No annual fee, $0.15 off per gallon at walmart stations, plus some cashback system tiered on your annual spending that caps at 1%.

Today gas was ~$3.25, which works out to (assuming 1% cashback) about 5.5% off per gallon. I don't remember the last time I was in a Walmart but it's definitely worth it now to get gas there.

My sentiments exactly, give me an instant or cash rebate 5%, no points BS.

If you shop at Target B&M or Target.com frequently, I would highly recommend their store credit card:

No annual fee
Free shipping at Target.com
5% instantly and immediately at cash registers <------ my wife and I love this

Was looking at that card and it looks intriguing but I'm kinda hesitant about the fraud protection/charge back ability of this card mentioned in some slickdeals thread.
