Seriously. Why don't people realize people have different customs and do things in ways that seem polite to them?
but then what would people get outraged about???

different strokes for different folks.

Ahem. An etiquette lesson for all of you.
It is perfectly OK to speak with people at your table while you have food in your mouth. The important part is to take only small bites so that when you do speak you can do so clearly without interference from the food.
It is considered poor manners to not respond to a question or involve yourself in conversation because your mouth is too full of food to participate.

Because some "customs" are disgusting and don't deserve respect. I'm sure it's ok to take a giant shit in front of other people in some cultures as well. I wouldn't be ok around that, either.
I assure you, there are many things that Americans do that would be considered massively disrespectful and disgusting in other countries.
Its like how how Americans say that native asians/indians/ etc etc etc smell bad. To people of those races/ethnicity, Americans smell like shit too.
If we Americans think that BO smells bad therefore Asians/Indians think that Speed Stick, Right-Guard, Old Spice etc... smells bad?
You realize that all that crap only covers up your armpits and shit, unless you're covering every inch of your skin with that stuff. The smell comes from the sweat that your entire body produces. And what you eat is what you smell like.
You act like people of other races don't also use deodorant.
Deodorant covers up unfamiliar smells sure, but smells that you're used to and other people of the same culture are used to are imperceptible. People of other cultures WILL notice those, and it will smell disgusting.
Also shit like Axe actually DOES smell bad.

Some people manage to be mostly odor-neutral - until an arm is raised, exposing an armpit to air that is all too willing to speedily waft unspeakable horrors toward anyone nearby. You realize that all that crap only covers up your armpits and shit, unless you're covering every inch of your skin with that stuff. Geez.i was an exchange student in japan for a summer and when i was there i noticed that people chewed with mouths open and slurped soup/noodles. i was told by the family i was staying with that the more noise you made as you ate, the more you showed the cook you liked the food. it was common there and after a little while, it was no big deal.
for a few weeks after i came home my family would give me all kinds of looks when we ate dinner and asked if i was 'enjoying my food' because i was being loud and chewing with my mouth open.

Couple Indian dudes I work with do this as well. I can't at with them. One of them basically has his face in his plate the entire time. And, they eat basically everything with their hand. Not hands. Hand, the right one. Lefty is reserved for dookie.
Of course, my 80 year old mother in law eats this way also and she's from Arkansas.
