What Dc project will you pick up when seti ends?

Its tough to start all over on a new project with new stats/installs... just curious what people are looking at running afterwords.

You taking a break, movin on to a new project, or goin to seti2?

I think we could double the entire project neo's stats in one day if just all our seti members alone ran the neo client Theres a lot of seti machines out there that are going idle soon.

I think you should all do D2OL and be on the team that will be #1 within the first week of January - hopefully by the New Year if we can get more recruits.

Instead of dreaming of some unrealistic goal, we should speculate about something more realistic. If only 20 people who ran other DC projects for TA would run the Neo client along with their current project on only one computer, and set the Neo client to use only 20% of the CPU power of that computer (leaving the rest of the computer's power to their current project), I think that Team AnandTech in the Neo project would go rocketing through the ranks like never before.



Oh, and for my crunching preferences: since I'm not doing SETI now, I will probably continue with Folding@Home on the two home rigs, with Neo running along side at 20% priority on my main rig to help out that project as well. The work computer will probably run SB (if that works out) along with Neo (to crunch to its little heart's content when SB can't get a new WU).

Edit: And oh, I wouldn't mind seeing a few people who may not want to do SETI 2 come over and help us with Folding@Home; we could really use some help in that project, because right now Team AnandTech is 17th, and we're not showing any signs of passing any of the teams above us.

Please don't misunderstand; I don't want to recruit anyone away from SETI. I think it would be awesome to have an even bigger SETI 2 team, and I'd love to see us be #1 in the world in SETI 2. I just made the comments about Folding@Home because I am interested in promoting the project to those who may not want to continue in SETI 2 after SETI comes to a conclusion.

to comment on joining d2ol.. my real dc goal is to make an impact on gettin a team towards the top ranks of any project that needs help. Complete domination (which looks like d2ol should soon become) is kinda pointless imho. A team like arstech could probably lead every single project if they split up their resources more. Just my 2 cents tho

I think most of us in D2OL are going to start moving some of our machines over to help out other projects once we get to the top. There is no point in being miles ahead of everyone and it would be no fun without leaving room for others to challenge us. Domination is not our goal, just to be on top and keep a safe margin of lead. When I started D2OL the DPC were 400000 candidates ahead of us just about 70 days ago. We will catch them within the next 2 to 3 weeks. One hell of an accomplishment I think.

But we arent going to stay self centered and only suck up the benefit of being number one. We are going to help all projects in the TeAm AnandTech domain, especially humanitarian projects. If all the TeAm AnandTech domain crunchers work together we can have a lot of number one positions on DC projects. Certainly great power houses like the DPC can hold number one indefinitely to any project they are bound to dominate, but I would rather see us number one in ten projects than number one by ten million units in any one project. IMHO

I always thought the point of DC was to help research in some area or another, stats meant nothing, just a tool to get folks' production up.

That's the reason I joined the SETI team, to help find quazars, and other such fenomina that might help in the understanding of magnetic fields and space distortions that could one day help us to travel though the galexy.....oh, and to find that bastard that abducted my dog and beat the little green man sensless.

people run them for whatever reasons... i personally like the stats and seeing projects get completed is very cool too Thats why I dont run seti. Long wu's = slow stats (which is more impressive in the long run, dont get me wrong), and i dont give a poop about the stars Math and science are what intruige me.

I am currently in the hunt to tip some cows in D2OL... once that is done, like mastertech01 said, I think I will keep a few machines on that project to keep the lead against any challengers, the devote the rest to either TACO or a similar roving band of CPUs-for-hire!

I'll stick with SETI 2 or AstroPulse(whatever they want to call it). Seeing how i'm a spacehead i'll stay with something astro-related as my main project.
I'd love to be able to join more projects, but i have a hard time assimilating computers, so i'm stuck with what i have here at home.
Althought i'm currently running SoB on one computer 'till the MTR starts & i plan on helping the Deception.net mini team on ECC2 for a bit.

The Wildnet will either take a break or maybe run SOB. But that's a lot of work, and it'd probably only be up a couple of months., since I'm graduating.

As for everything else, I'm not sure. SOB looks good, since primes are how I got started, and my future issues are going to be bandwidth and memory. I refuse to run NEO, though, until they use a better (e.g. distributed Pollard Rho) algorithm.
