What DDR3 memory speed are you going with for SB

What Brand/speed memory are you guys going with for your SB purchase. Since my gtx 570 died on me I've been on a buying spree, buying a 580, and now I'm going to pull the trigger on a SB setup.

I bought 1600 on BF sale.....I'm not a bleeding edge, pay thru the nose guy though, and it appeared that RAM speed has minimal impact on system performance from what I've heard on these boards.

I bought 1600Mhz a week ago but in mind of keeping it to 1333MHz with 1.5V. Reviews of H67 chipset assured me that even if I wanted to I couldn't juice up my RAM more... So that didn't affect me much.

I have 4GB of GEIL Ultra line 2133MHz (7.7.7.24) that I will be using.
I bought it about 9 months ago, and have been using it in a P55 i5 system.

Does memory speed affect the CPU's max overclock or performance somehow? Or are the two completely independent?

Well I know I like the way my system feels with the ram the fastest it will run. I've tried it at slower speeds, slower speeds with faster timings. It always returns the best results with running the mhz the fastest, which is 1600mhz cas 8 in my case.
It does give that last single % + in boot time (with ssd), focus switching, fps, everything.
I read ,forget site, they tested kits 2000mhz and above with P55 and 1366 systems. They couldn't reliably get kits to consistently run faster than 1800mhz up.
If your going to want ram to run that fast, I think you would best to do alot of reading and find kits that are using ram modules on the newest , smallest process. Which I'm not up on myself.

I got some 1600 on sale this holiday, going to run 8 gigs on each system. I didn't see the need to pay more money when the specs only call for 1333 anyways.

DDR3 2200 if youw ant the best

FUD. Socket 1366 has more memory bandwidth than Socket 1156 and it means squat outside of server use and SuperPi/WPrime benchmark leaderboard. Therefore, there is no implication that anything is different this time around (and SB already has improved memory bandwidth performance despite being dual-channel only). Low latency is still more important for Core architectures, and has been since Core 2 Duo series in 2006.

The way they use to O/C it was stressful but with unlocked multies . Its a little differant. Ya don't have to fine tune like ya do for locked chips. What all the cring is about.

Ya it does. on the P4C timing was huge . On BH1 it was a good performance bust

so even if you're going to OC to say 4.4ghz or as high as you can go, DDR3 1600 will be just fine?

I'm checking ASUS's memory compat spreadsheet, I don't see G Skill 2x4gb DDR 1600, but it's listed on the 1800. I guess I'll go with 1800 just to be safe.

MicroCenter is about 35 miles me, looks like I'll be taking a drive on Sunday for an Asus deluxe and 2600k. Too bad they don't carry G Skill memory. Guess I'll place another order from newegg. Just ordered a gtx 580 and a 3tb wd green to back up my raids just in case they don't transfer over to the new intel chipset.

My I5 rig feels a lot more responsive with DDR3 2000 then it did with DDR3 1333

1333 is what the CPU calls for. 1600 or faster if you want to overclock.

I can't tell any real diff between brands anymore. So I just buy the cheapest fast memory I can get.

Cheapest 4GB DDR3 2000 memory on newegg right now is 69.99. Can't get any better deals then that.

if G-Skill model: F3-12800CL7D-4GBRH(XMP) is on the ASUS QVL spreadsheet

I assume F3-12800CL7D-8GBRH(XMP) is safe to grab? Not many 8g kits listed on either gigabyte or the asus spreadsheets.

No difference at all on my i7 rig (1366) except benchmarking. I ran at 1066, 1333, and 1600 and nothing was different except your benchmark scores. I settled on somewhere between 1333 and 1600 that ran stable on a good low voltage with solid timings (my RAM was officially rated at 1333). Especially with triple-channel memory on the 1366 platform, you are FAR from memory bandwidth limited. You could run 1066 and probably be just fine (~1% difference in most apps).

Not sure about SB since it it double-channel, but I would guess that anything more than 1600 is probably overkill. As always, I would take 8 or 12GB at 1333mhz rather than 4-6GB at 2000mhz+. Capacity >>> Speed (in most cases).

If I went with 8Gb (2 x 4Gb) @ 1600 (assuming that it's preferable not to fill all of the DIMM slots), is there a "standard" timing for the modules that I should go with for a P67 board w/2500K?

In shopping/comparing, I'm seeing different timing specs, but I'm not certain if this is solely a correlation with the bandwidth that the modules are rated at, or if there are lower/higher performance options at a given bandwidth... (?)

/sorry for the ignorance; still learning

6-8-6-20 is about the fastest you can buy with a decent voltage spec (~1.6)v but these are pretty spendy. I would shoot for a CAS 8 or CAS 7 and that would be plenty fast IMHO.
