What Defines a Person’s Character?

So I'm just reading some thread over at the garage and this question came to my mind.

For some, it's being true to one's word, being honest, or have integrity. How do you define your character?

Surviving crises in love and life and learning from your mistakes. Anyone can make good choices when things are going your way. Character comes out when the shit hits the fan.

Character... sometimes I think we confuse what character means. Character is essentially personality, isn't it? It's the combination of our traits that allow those who we encounter to differentiate us from anyone else. This as opposed to character having some specific positive connotation, as if it's absence is a product of negative traits. No, there is no absence of character, but some people may have more or less "contrast" than others.

No, character and personality are two different things. Many politicians and TV/movie personalities are likeable BUT, they have no character unless it's evil or weak.

Someone with good intentions who's smart enough to make them happen in the real world has good character.
