How people manage to get two bachelor degrees in 4 years stuns me. I just don't see how it is doable unless you're going above and beyond in course load by taking nearly double the amount of courses an average student would. No way would I ever have the motivation for that. D:

If you take advantage of AP program in high school, you can start college with most of your core classes out of the way. I started college with 38 credits and most of my core classes already out of the way. I could have graduated in 3 years had I not started to double major (I wasted about 1 year taking classes for my 2nd major and then stopped).

You can also take advantage of summer classes, which can knock off a semester (maybe two). Additionally, taking 6 classes a semester instead of 5 can knock off a semester.

I could have done EE and CS in 4.5 years if I had not interned and taken classes over the summer instead.

Yes, four years total. I did take 12 hours two summers and I had around 150 hours when I finished. I was a total study hound. Unfortunately it's why I have so many poor memories of undergrad.

Working on a BS in Biochemistry, 3 years in, probably 1.5 left. EE my first year and I have about 10 wasted credits because of it.

BS Biology.
After BS you can go to the local community college and apply for other AA/AS, which I scored 3. Worthless but ....

Computer Science, 4 years. Standard fare on ATOT.

Edit - BSc of course. None of this namby-pamby BA bullshit.

It is funny you mention that. I decided to go for BA because it provided the flexibility to dedicate some time to undergraduate research. I do not think I would be where I am now if it weren't for the relationships I built doing research.

Edit: BA CS, 5 years.

A paper I submitted a few months ago was rejected by an Elsevier journal.

Nothing to feel ashamed of, but you can always resubmit after making some changes or adding something to make you work look more substantial and appealing. I know its waaay easier said than done.. but, IMO, not giving up on your work is the most important one can do.

Although, I have not yet published anything yet.. I sure know how it feels to get accepted. All the best for your future.

First paper I submitted got rejected. Keep trying!

Oh yeah, I'm published, so I'm sort of used to the way the system works. I noticed dennilfloss's publication was in an Elsevier journal, so the incident came to mind.

Good luck to both of you too!

BS - Applied Mathematical Sciences

I'd say it's allowed me to stay employed throughout the recession, and landed me my current almost-dream-job.

Still taking actuarial exams though.

AP classes, community college transfers, summer classes.

Also, it wasn't that many more credit hours to get the two degrees. For example:

HIS major is 42 credit hours
ANT minor is 16 the major is 42

you need 120 to graduate, and there are about 30 free floating credits for you to take.

so you just substitute those extra 30 electives into your second major program, and you are golden. No need for extra time in school. Not to mention, that the majority of ant/his classes fall under the general studies. The only thing I really had to take for general studies was my math, ENG, and science credits. Everything else ended up being covered under my major/minor. I semi-cheated though since I had prior credits, AP credits, and an AA degree before I switched to where i'm going now. but it only took a year off my school time.

Most people I know who were double majoring were doing it in like Computer Science and Software Engineering so there was a lot of overlap in the classes they needed.

Not quite the same thing as a double major, but along the same lines. I got my minor almost by accident.

My now-wife was a Social Ecology major and I wanted to take classes with her. My major was Psychology. Turns out there were a LOT of classes that overlapped our majors, so we took those.

I got a minor in SE, and she ended up with a minor in Psych.

I am sure you can do similar things with majors. Now, if you get two degrees is totally unrelated fields, then you are over achieving.

The wife has a BS in biology from University of Oregon, and an MSN from Vanderbilt. It took her six years.

She's a family nurse practitioner. It's been very worth it, despite the high cost of attending Vandy.

I'm in the process of attaining an AutoCAD certificate, plus one each AAS in Network Admin and Database Admin. I should be done Spring of 2013.

Will finish my BS in mechanical engineering next spring after 4 years, then I expect to get my MS in an additional year. I've also finished my minor in German.

I've gotten to see and do some pretty cool stuff so far just during my education, so
