It would appear I was given a final gift this year all the way from the land of the rising sun that I never in one hundred years would have expected, this one on behalf of our very own Ichinisan and Zinfamous here at anandtech.

The Japan style Super Nintendo; The Super Famicom!!

Its box will hold a place of honor beside the others on the shelf.

Now there are two possible takeaways from this post. The first; that I have an extremely unhealthy addiction to all things Nintendo border lining on obsession and require professional help. The second, that Ichinisan and Zinfamous are two massively incredible people who's thoughtfulness, selflessness and charity made this little Nintendo fangirl very happy. I implore everyone reading this thread to lean towards the latter!

Thank you so much to both of you!!

Hold up. I didn't get anything from Zinfamous! He owes me some delicious processed meat for tricking me into buying Treet damnit!

I gift all the young ones in my family college savings plan contributions.
I do the same. I give all my nieces and nephews a small trinket gift so that they know that I give them things. Then put the real gift in college saving's plans for them. With any luck it'll be enough to buy them a semester at a reasonably priced college when they are old enough.

That said, if the more well off didn't buy expensive gifts and hoarded it all, then no one would have money but them. ATOT should be happy when people buy $60,000+ cars for Christmas, because that is $60,000+ more money suddenly flowing around the economy.

This. The more money the rich spend, the better off we are as a whole. Heck, let them buy 4 cars, a boat, and have a lavish party or two that is fully catered, has an open bar, massage tables, and a live band or two. Then pay a cleaning service to put everything back in order. Maybe spend 20k on a ski vacation to get some fresh air after all that partying.

The real heartbreak is people with meager incomes financing Christmas.

I've always wondered who the hell gets a $60,000+ car with a bow on it for Christmas.

Because you see it _all_ the time on TV commercials, right? Must be commonplace.

Like someone commented elsewhere, I'd be like

"Do you mean to tell me you took $60,000 of our savings to buy a fucking car, without even asking me?"

A working SNES? I will be in Japan soon, may get me a copy or even a NES because the NES US version is sold out and Nintendo is not making them anymore.

You are a girl?

I've been saying this for a long time. It makes me groan out loud whenever a Lexus holiday ad starts. Involuntary. Can't help it.
