old problem: Iraq is filled with people who hate each other and will do anything to kill each other
bush's old solution: use our troops as a meatshield between various militias

bush's new problem: militias have grown big enough to force there way through the meatshield
bush's new solution: build a bigger meatshield

I'm not sure which think tank is making this policy up for him but they should be rounded up and deported to downtown Baghdad

I'm still trying to figure out how Shi'a payback would be a bad thing? If we were not serving as a human shield to what comes natural to them? Or even a regional war? Divide and conquer.. Whatever weakens the camp of Islam should be embraced not prevented.

Wrong. We are losing. We can't maintain current troop levels in Iraq indefinitely, but there is really no practical limit to the amount of people in that region who are willing to kill each other and Americans.

The longer there is a 'stalemate', the more we have lost.

I am not going to say I loved it. In fact I am getting tired of the speeches on what we are going to do in Iraq.

As many are saying this is his last chance to get it right.

A lot of people, generals, McCain etc are saying we are taking the right steps in this plan. That does not mean it will work though. Too many variables.

By the end of summer things have got to get better or else we have to start bringing the troops home, or getting them out of harms way.

BTW: Pelosi said we needed more troops two years ago, now she says we don?t need more troops. Both sides seem to have no clue what to do here.

The think tank that wants to be able to say: "see! we did everything possible and those Iraqis are just a bunch blood thirsty killers no matter how much resources, money and troops we provide to them"

I think this is the beginning of the end actually.

You're trying so hard to find the slimmest glimmer of light in that POS speech, and you're so wrong.

The Bushwhackos have been so wrong for so long that they're way past their last chance to got it right. They should have thought about it more before they started this mess behind their well documented trail of lies.

Did you hear the part where he chose off Iran and Syria? Assuming for the moment that there may be some valid reason for taking on either of them, or any other potential target, exactly who's military do you suggest we use? Ours is broken.

As of this postinge're at 3019 dead American troops in Iraq. By the end of summer, we'll have invested an unknown greater number of dead Americans. FOR WHAT? Do you really believe tose shabby generalizations in Bush's speech?

BTW -- It's far past time Pelosi and others in Congress found the courage to speak up, call the Moron in Chief and his criminal gang on their lies and take action to stop them.

George Bush is worried about his legacy. He should be. He will be known throughout history as The man who broke the world.

I think it would be a good idea if the first additional troops in Iraq were the Bush twins.
Maybe if he had "some skin in the game" he would take a more realistic view of the reality on the ground.

Listening to him talk makes me literally sick to my stomach so I avoid it at all costs. He should be smacked in the face every time he does that ridiculous smirk as well.

from this article:

"Meanwhile, another Massachusetts voice was heard from yesterday, as 2008 GOP hopeful Mitt Romney jumped into the high-stakes fray with a strong endorsement of Bush?s plans to send in 21,500 more troops.
?I agree with the president. Our strategy in Iraq must change,? Romney said in a statement. ?Our military mission, for the first time, must include securing the civilian population from violence and terror. It is impossible to defeat the insurgency without first providing security for the Iraqi people.?

So, after all these years of fighting in Iraq we are only NOW going to start "securing the civilian population"???

This is such bad comedy. If America didn't have such a short damn attention span there is NO WAY our government could get away with this BS. I bet GOP supporters (in particular Romney supporters) love to hear this BS rhetoric.

Its ALL Bullsh!t!!!

oh and PS..Pelosi and Kennedy don't exactly smell of roses either...their rhetoric can be just as nauseating.

WTF are you drinking/smoking?

There is nothing to win and thousands of more American lives to lose...for NOTHING.
That jackass did everything he could to keep his own butt safe during Viet Nam & yet he thinks nothing over risking another 20,000 American lives over nothing.

I guess regional stability and Afghanistan on steroids doesn't matter to you, because that's what Iraq will be if we leave. Who cares about middle east stability though, they only have the most important commodity in the world which drives our economy...no biggie though. We have nothing to lose by leaving, I gotcha.

A dollar short and a day late, but in plain old Bush style, 380 thousand troops short and 5 years past a possible victory.:frown: Watched him not, 'cause my chest waders leak.:disgust: I do hope to watch his resignation.

Well the sad thing is, this man got a ton of votes which enabled him to win the presidency.

SO, lets just get on with it and start calling it "Camp Iraq!!"

maybe we can get Mr Bush to start vacationing there instead of Camp David!!

sounds like a plan

Do you think us Republicans are sitting back and enjoying the nightly body counts or the seemingly endless nature of this war?

Of course we don?t.
We want victory as much, if not more, than anyone else in the country.
I hope that this surge and the change in tactics that come with it will lead to a safer Iraq and that we can follow this period with plans to bring out troops home.

As some are saying, the quickest way to bring the troops home is to end the violence and ?win? the war. This plan is suppose to do that, if it work then it is a victory for everyone. If it doesn?t work then I believe that Bush will have run out of chances and time.

We have everything to gain from instability and war, just like in Iraq-iran war when you have a war to fight you thumb you nose at OPEC and dump. Am I the only one who remembers how cheap gas was in the 80's and why? Then you get to the issue of thier radicals and warriors killing each other instead of us. Let them spend their monies, men and materials..hell we should sell them arms too, both sides. Cheap oils get rich off arms sales. Maybe just maybe after a hundred years of this only moderates and peace lovers will be left.
