I have a 2005 CRV and I noticed it has raised edges and in certain section there are what looks like plastic covers that pop off and maybe I can mount a rack or bars there. I am wanting to use my CRV instead of my truck to haul my kayaks around
You need crossbars. The type of crossbar depends on your roof; if what you're describing is roof rails from the factory, you get crossbars that mount to the rails (much easier). If you don't have the rails, you'll need crossbars that come with towers designed to mount to your vehicle (they mount by compression, and you have to do a whole lot of measuring and double checking to get everything lined up). It seems like someone took the rails off? Those holes shouldn’t be exposed. Unless you’re taking caps off to expose them. You can get the Honda base carrier, which includes the side rails and the cross bars. I recommend it over after market towers that clamp on.
Be aware that simply having the rack on the roof might net a 1-3mpg loss on the highway, even without kayaks in place. I'm sure you'll come out ahead compared with driving the truck around, but anything sticking up into the wind will both generate noise and cost you at the pump.
