This.

But I do use BCE and CE rather than BC and AD.

No offense, but if you're still indexing from the same timepoint, it doesn't make much sense to change the terminology.

If you're that worried that teh evil Christians are going to creep into your brain while you sleep if you use their dating system, then start counting years from the fall of Greece, or the Code of Hammurabi, or something. Otherwise you run the risk of looking like those feminists who spell "women" with a "y" so that it doesn't have the word "men" in it.

Well, it depends on the sentence. If I'm referring to the period including thanksgiving and new year, then I say holidays. If I'm referring to christmas, it's f---ing christmas.

<-- also atheist.

I just feel dirty saying I celebrate christmas, since I am an atheist.

Merry Christmas!

The perfect response to this thread.

Merry Christmas

Celebrate the Solstice!

I ring in evergreens (a solstice tree) to represent the soon to come return of the sun.

I Put out lights to chase back the darkness of winter.

I believe that everyone subconsciencely wants this to turn into a religious flame fest.

Or flame festivus.

Festivus is a godless communist celebration.

A mix between Christmas and Holidays. Christmas for the 25th and Holidays for the season in general (Thanksgiving through New Years). My wife is Jewish so Chanukah gets brought up too.

If I ever ran in to someone who said Xmas as in "ex-mas", for reasons put out by the OP, I'd have to punch him/her in the face for being such a tool.

I call everythine from Thanksgiving up to DUI-night (new years) the Holidays. The week that December 25th is in, I call Christmas. So, I screwed up my vote and said Holidays...

For my liberal friends:

Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, our best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low-stress, non-addictive, gender-neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasion and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all.

We also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the generally accepted calendar year 2009, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make America great.

Not to imply that America is necessarily greater than any other country nor the only America in the Western Hemisphere. And without regard to the race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual preference of the wishes. By accepting these greetings you are accepting these terms.

This greeting is subject to clarification or withdrawal. It is freely transferable with no alteration to the original greeting. It implies no promise by the wisher to actually implement any of the wishes for herself or himself or others, and is void where prohibited by law and is revocable at the sole discretion of the wisher.

This wish is warranted to perform as expected within the usual application of good tidings for a period of one year or until the issuance of a subsequent holiday greeting, whichever comes first, and warranty is limited to replacement of this wish or issuance of a new wish at the sole discretion of the wisher.

Oh, and for my conservative friends:

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
