I'd call it a gender identity problem. Now, when she starts to actually do something about it, such as taking male hormones, getting surgery, or just dressing and acting like a guy, then it's transgender.

I believe it's hermaphrodite. I think I may be mixing up transgender & transsexual. Hearkening back to my intro to Sociology class I'm remembering that gender is more a state of mind than physical appearance.

Gender is what sex you are. This is a biology issue. Going from one to the other is trans, as in transforming.

Hermaphrodite is extremely rare: less than 20 people worldwide.

As for the psychological aspects of this, that's a whole new discusion.

I guess it would depend on how you classify things like this.

I prefer to use Biology as my guide. You are either male or female. XY or XX. Gender is based on your DNA. What you think or how you want to look doesn't change what you are biologically.
