I code stuff. High performance computing. 7-4 or 8-5 depending on when I feel like getting up. 980 schedule. I make around ~120, which is negated entirely by the cost of the living out here, but still totally worth it. 45 hours a week max, outside of that I live. I like my job and benefits, and location, a lot. I hope this something I can keep longer term.

Voip Support Engineer. Work 9 to 5ish. Work from home.

Job can be a bit of a grind, but the pay is good, and the commute is outstanding.

I'm a bum with no direction. Previously worked in QA, programming, and even sold Kirby vacuums once (only $2,000; too bad most people had sense).

Dropped out of programming to care for my great aunt, and tried to write, but I never really had the time. Only people that have taken care of someone else knows the time and mental effort it takes; even her daughter thought I was just living it up or something with no real job. I wouldn't change a thing though.

Considering the Peace Corps, culinary school, or maybe even finally getting my programming degree, but I'm old and a lot has changed. Think I'm just going to live off my savings for a few years and maybe try my hand at writing again.

Sales Engineer for a very large tech company. I work from home when not out meeting with customers. Some weeks I'm home all week. Some weeks I might drive downtown to work with a customer. Some weeks I traverse a couple states and see two to three different locations. Some days I'm in sales meetings on site or from home, demonstrating software. Other days I'm either remotely working via webex or on site installing and building out use cases for a proof of concept install.

Tomorrow I'm waking up at 5:30 and out the door by 6:30 to be on site for a demo followed by lunch about 100 miles away from home

Tuesday I'll wake up at 8:00. Do a conference all at 8:30 and then leave the house at 10am and drive an hour to go meet a current customer for lunch... Though they haven't confirmed as of yet.

Wednesday I'm staying home and getting all my admin work done as I go on vacation Thursday...Part vacation and part work... Have to have laptop with me as it is 4th quarter in sales and I might have to help a customer or put out a fire. Due to that I'm taking a couple of extra days with family and working remote.

Best part about my job? Flexibility. Another best? Challenging as all get out when we are busy.

My base is over 100k and I close on between 175k and 200k depending on how much over 100% of our regions sales quota I get.

I love my job as it allows me to interface with the product management teams, dev teams and work directly with the customers. Company has been very good to me though they have the typical corporate BS like any other. Benefits have been great.

I'm a resident physician, about halfway through my intern year. I'm going into anesthesiology, but I have to do a preliminary year in general medicine first, so that's what I'm doing now. It's pretty rough to be honest, but I'll get through it. I'm excited to finally be doing anesthesia since that's been my goal since about junior year of undergrad. And even though this year sucks, my program is probably more tolerable than most, so that helps.

Heh, you sound like me about twelve years ago. The job is fun, but the economics of medicine sucks. More and more money gets funneled in, but it all goes into non-medical administration telling the medical people what to do.

Small business owner(retail garden center). 80 hours a week in season and around 50 hours a week in the off season. In season I start at 6 and leave at 7, off season is 8:30 to 5.
My commute is short. About 10 mins one way which is nice. I make around 37k a year.

D: Fuck... that's a lot of hours for not a lot of money. That's barely above minimum wage.

Land Use Planner for the County. 40 hrs/wk, + a few monthly community meetings. 8-5, commute is about 30 mins 1 way. Currently making just above $70k right now. I just found out the GIS manager is leaving, so I may apply for that, and a buddy is mine is trying to recruit me as a GIS Specialist in a city south of me. Tempted, but my department might be opening up a Planning Manager position that I think I'd be a shoe-in for.

Where is my population growth projection?

15 years with web applications, work from home full time (hardly 40 hours), love it. I wake up "on time" only because I gotta get my kids on the bus. This much freedom has spoiled me to the point where I know I could do better elsewhere but I won't even try until they make me (kick me out on the street).

And what about the development charge? What is the status on that? :awe:

TBH I've never really had to deal with development charges and agreements. Since the recession, there just isn't a whole lot of development going on here, especially since it's probably about 80% rural throughout the County. I'm actually working on some long range planning, Community Plans and a Zone Code Update, as well as working on some medical marijuana stuff the state recently passed.

30 years mainframes, 10 years client/server. Retired 1026 days. Get up when I want. Sleep when I want. Nap when I want. Hit the gun range when I want. Make more in retirement income than I did the last few years of working. The financial gods are kind to me.

I did some projection work in a previous life. That is where I met the horror of all programmers. Excel spreadsheet developed by planners :awe:

Props to you. Keep at it. Leg breaking for a living kinda of sucks unless you own the bat.

Oh, wait, I do own the bat.

I tried your advise. Lost my home, my car, my health and nearly starved to death!
