TBH, it's management that wants it to "look cool" for when the higher end managers come to visit. No joke. When we got a new manager he wanted to change everything around as we were not all facing the front and we only had a couple random TVs setup for global stuff that we all look at. Most of the stuff we watch is on our own PCs. Now we have like 10ish TVs up front that we hardly even look at because all the stuff we need is local. Though we did get 3 4k monitors and 1 HD monitor, instead of 4-6 HD that we had before so that was a bonus. Most of us were bringing extra monitors from home as they keep adding new stuff for us to watch and we just had no screen real estate left.

The stuff on the TVs is realistically too small to view from a distance and you have to remote into it if you want to interact with it, it's only management that really looks at that.

It looks cool though.

Same exact thing here. We big TV's on the wall that no one ever watches. They are there to 'look good for when directors and execs stop by'.

We all work from home now, so only 1 person is ever even in this so called 'command center' at a time.

Generalized IT sysadmin. Several years in the military, followed by contractor work, followed by higher ed. Potentially branching into blacksmithing, if I can find the time and someone not trying to ream me on the cost of an anvil.

What size anvil are you looking for? My wife may be ready to sell hers as arthritis is limiting her smithing.

Blacksmithing's cool. That was always something I had an interest in, but at this point, I doubt it'll happen. Too much other stuff occupying my time, but if an almost turnkey forge & shop turned up, I can't say I wouldn't jump in.

It's been an interest for a long time, and has recently turned into an infatuation. We just got lucky on the family (gf's parents) buying a property that has the space for such an endeavor, and I've got free time time to pursue it, after taking care of the property. Hopefully this extends beyond a hobby and into something that can actually be useful and/or keep food in my stomach once my job gets inevitably automated out of existence.

Hardwood Flooring

I do lots of high end work for the rich and famous in this area. Along with landmark houses and I even had the pleasure of doing the floors in the restoration of a F.L.W. house But today I started a slightly gruesome job of tearing out and replacing the floor where somebody blew their brains out.

Frank Lloyd Wright
Get your money upfront, he's known for stiffing people.

I went to college with a guy who grew up near Taliesin. That's all the guy would talk about when Wright was mentioned. Forget architecture, it was always, "he didn't pay his bills."

Any tips on renovating hardwood that was installed in the 50-60s? Floor looks decent, but it needs sanded/stained of course. Also, what do you do when there are slight gaps in-between boards? Are you supposed to put in some kind of filler?

I work for an IT firm as well. Great place to work...lots of fringe benefits, the clients are usually nice, and the pay is pretty decent. I'm surrounded by a lot of people who are the top of their game too, so we share a lot of knowledge every day. Makes it tough to get bored

We generally trowel fill the entire floor with wood filler when we sand a floor to fill any gaps. Unless there is movement in the boards because it's not tight to the sub floor. Then we let the customer make that decision because it's likely to just come back out eventually.

Senior Electronics Design Engineer.

I do board level design from product architecture to schematic capture and through PCB layout.

I work for a Design Engineering firm, and we have all kinds of different clients so the designs range in complexity for something really simple like a USB hub, to boards used in super computers. It keeps it interesting.

I tinker with hardware, mostly point of sale related equipment. I also do tech support, and also software bug testing on the side.

I'm a law talking guy. I have my own law firm. Mostly business/corporate litigation.

Git a rope!

I do work I can't stand, for people I don't like, for not enough money. Needless to say I fucked up along the way to get where I am. Multiple felonies will do that.

I've got a pretty long rap sheet myself. Construction paid fairly well for me, ($80-90K/ year) especially since I only had a GED. Only had o e job where my record kept me out. )Lawrence Livermore labs)

Moved up a long way in recent years...damn, I remember when you were in...Kingvale(?) yard.

As for me, I'm a medically retired crane and heavy equipment operator with over 30 years in the seat. I've been "retired" for 15 years.
