All low intensity cardio for me. I Hit the tread mill on 4.5 and a slight incline and jog for half an hour. Full incline at 3.2-3.5 for an hour.

combo between hiking (strenous hikes 1000+ft elevation changes), elliptical, mountain biking, snowboarding in winter and wakeboarding in summer.

Combination of swimming, kickboxing, and elliptical. I get weird muscle pain in my shins when I run on a treadmill.

Alot of people do cardio to strengthen their heart, not just to lose weight.

The fact that you know enough to know the term ectomorph means you should know enough to do cardio.

Hell yeah man, I don't want my heart failing on me! I bet there are just as many heart failures among non-cardio ectos as there are pro-cardio endos!

I do Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, which encompasses a bunch of different conditioning drills and grappling of course, and currently I do CrossFit, which brings together weight training and HIIT all into one.

Ectos don't need to do cardio in the general sense. If you don't think working out for 45-75 minutes three times a week doesn't strengthen your heart, you would be mistaken. Besides that, you have no idea what my workouts consist of. For example, I end my chest/tris day by doing 2 sets of 50 push-ups.

If whatever you're doing accelerates your heart rate and sustains that for at least 25 minutes, it's a cardiovascular workout.

Everyone needs to do cardio.

I can agree with that, but like I pointed out, I was talking about cardio in the general sense.

Is weightlifting an option in the poll? No, and the reason is because when people talk about cardio they mean running, swimming, biking, etc.

The last thing an ecto needs is to jump on a treadmill after lifting weights for an hour.

I'm right in between ecto and meso, leaning a bit more towards the meso side - ah, yes, the best of both worlds!

I love running. I've been doing it on a treadmill lately but once I'm back at home I'll run on the nice little bike trail behind my house.

I hit the treadmill after my workouts, and try to do a little bit of HIIT, though I'm just starting. I used to use the stationary bikes too, but boredom has ruled them out. When the snow disappears I'll be doing some mountain biking in the hills around home.

I play basketball once a week, 2 hours, and at least a couple of hours of squash too.

Surprised so few people swim. Now that I have a pool at my gym my only cardio will be swimming. I enjoy it much more than running and it is a good way to cool down after a workout.

Weightlifting undoubtedly strengthens your heart, BUT it doesn't significantly increase you cardiovascular ability (unless you're doing resistance HIIT). Two sets of 50 pushups doesn't really count as cardio either since it's such a short-lived experience. If you did 50 pushups, 50 squats, 50 situps, 50 hyperextensions, 50 pullups for time... then you'd have a different story. Ectos do need cardio if they want to be faster, stronger, better, etc. They just don't need it to lose weight as badly as meso's and endo's do.

EDIT: Typo.

I disagree. Maintaining an increased heart rate over a period of time(45+ minutes) through weightlifting 3x a week is enough for an ecto. Doing anymore cardio on top of that will unnecessarily burn calories. This is assuming the ecto doesn't lead a completely sedentary lifestyle outside of the gym.

Huh? What you're saying goes against the basic reasoning of why anyone does cardio for anything other than fat loss. Your heart isn't any different just because you're an ecto. When you lift, you maintain a heart rate much lower than your cardiovascular training heart rate. For example, if I lift heavy with little rest, I can get my heart rate up to a max of 130. With HIIT, I can get it up to 180 if I try hard enough. These two things put a VERY different strain on the heart. Go try to run a mile now. Then train for 4 weeks doing HIIT twice a week. Then go run the mile again. Try this with any distance and with any exercise. I promise you that your lifting does not make your cardio in tip-top shape.

If you can still pump out 100 push ups immediately after lifting on you chest/tri days that tells me that you didn't work your triceps hard enough. You should try doing push ups in between your lifts, that'll really blast your triceps plus it will get that heart of your really working.

You need running either on a treadmill, outside, or during some type of game. If you not running its not really cardio.

Lol, that's not correct at all. Doing cardio involved getting your heart rate up to a point that it allows the heart to, in essence, get stronger. You can do this with swimming, running, weight training, tabatas, rowing, biking, and many more. Running is often times the most accessible option, but not the only one by any means.

I may start some HIIT, but even now, my cardio already consists of varying intervals of intensity....

swimming, bout 12k a week, maybe 15k sometimes (far cry from 60k in my teen years)

do a couple of other things, swimming is the main cardio, but i do break dancing as well 3 x a week for 2 hours..... seems to be a good all rounder, it improves core strength and well even for some one like me going for it in a circle for only a few minute properly tires you out. breakdancing is hard.

do hour of power 2 times a week, its more for muscle endurance n power over cardio, but depends what happens, it can get your heart rate up moderately

That's the thing, it doesn't need to be in tip-top shape. If you're an ecto, and your goal is to put on weight(muscle as well as a healthy amount of fat) you don't need separate cardio sessions.
