I might be able to get a good deal on this panel in the near future. Specs-wise it looks nice. I didn't see anything mentioned about it in the LCD sticky, so I'd thought I'd ask. I currently have a 19-inch BenQ FP93GX and an old 17-inch Acer panel in dual display. Can this widescreen handle games acceptably?

22" panel = TN type = Stay away if you dont want crappy picture and color banding.

But if its all you can afford, go for it I guess.

All my LCDs have been TNs so far and the IQ has been good enough for my crappy eyes.

Is the IQ going to be noticeably worse than my 19-inch BenQ FP93GX?

I can probably get it for around $200 or so as we are putting in large-ish Dell order at work soon and we can usually get our rep to knock a fair chunk of things like that.

Granted, if you like what you see, I cant say anything about that. But I have owned a 22 Scepter gamer and it just looked awful. Just going off of my experience.

Fair enough, I wasn't disagreeing with your observations. I was more curious if the IQ is bad versus other TN monitors.

How does one tell what kind of panel they have? I have a 2005FPW (bought about 18 months ago).

I wouldn't recommend the E228, but its still an excellent bargain if you're mainly focused on price and real estate with good performance in games. I think its @$300 right now, with a 10-15% coupon its a great entry level LCD.

But as others said, if you want to look at the 22" TNs, I'd go with the Samsung 226BW or another of the 2nd gen TN (Acer and Viewsonic I believe). The TNs are fast, but the color reproduction, panel uniformity, viewing angles, pixel pitch, pixel density/size, and excessive backlight bleed all leave a lot to be desired.

The biggest problems I had with the E228 were the color reproduction/uniformity and viewing angles. Even looking straight on the panel just really strains your senses. Hot spots, pixel popping, sparkling....there's just a lot going on with this panel when there shouldn't be. I didn't really notice this with the Samsung I saw in CC.

I have no dead pixels ...no shimmering....hotspots ...the backlight bleed is barely noticable on a black screen...and actually alot better than on most LCD panels i have previously seen.

The horizontal view angle is pretty good. But, yes, the vertical view angle is less forgiving. You do have to look at it almost straight on. But for a single person viewing, this is what you do anyways. I have no headaches thanks

I am definately NOT a colour expert. But i can say it (colour) is better than my crt 19 in 97f NEC Monitor produces.

If you look too close at the monitor then you can see the screen door effect that was mentioned previously on this forum. This is not noticeable if you view the monitor from the recommended distance (arm's length).

Finally i will note that the reaction to this monitor(from people who actually bought it) has been very mixed ...so perhaps quality control is not all there.
