I wouldn't recommend the E228, but its still an excellent bargain if you're mainly focused on price and real estate with good performance in games. I think its @$300 right now, with a 10-15% coupon its a great entry level LCD.
But as others said, if you want to look at the 22" TNs, I'd go with the Samsung 226BW or another of the 2nd gen TN (Acer and Viewsonic I believe). The TNs are fast, but the color reproduction, panel uniformity, viewing angles, pixel pitch, pixel density/size, and excessive backlight bleed all leave a lot to be desired.
The biggest problems I had with the E228 were the color reproduction/uniformity and viewing angles. Even looking straight on the panel just really strains your senses. Hot spots, pixel popping, sparkling....there's just a lot going on with this panel when there shouldn't be. I didn't really notice this with the Samsung I saw in CC.
