Ok this computer will be used for primarily 2 things.
a. Gaming
b. Posting annoying questions on anandtech

Ram: G.SKILL Trident X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2400 (PC3 19200) Desktop Memory Model F3-2400C10D-16GTX
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231589

Motherboard: ASUS MAXIMUS VI FORMULA LGA 1150 Intel Z87
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813132038

CPU: Intel Core i7-4770K Haswell 3.5GHz LGA 1150 84W Quad-Core Desktop Processor
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819116901

To a grand total of $831

What I will be pairing it with
a. Titan (have 680 now giving to my kid so she can game
b. 1500 watt thermaltake Powersupply
c. A few SSD
d. Windows 8 (only for the new directx version, Everything else about win 8 Sucks)

I do have a few questions also
a. What do you guys think of this build
b. Is there anything new coming out that would benifit me waiting a month
c. Is the ram there good for gaming because I always have difficutly selecting the best ram.
d. If I spent a bit more money could I get something better. I dont wanna go nuts but shelling out a few extra hundreds to get best of the best would be something I would be willing to do.

Everything looks top notch to me. The only new shiny toy coming soon is the new R9 290x card from AMD but it will be around Titan level so you wouldn't be getting anything much better than Titan(maybe scaling of the new CF tech would be better than SLI of Titans but this needs to be seen in practice/reviews).

I don't advise purchasing a Titan unless you need a Tesla K GPU for work and you want to game on the same machine.

I would get a GTX 780 post R9 290X launch or get the R9 290X instead.

Given I own those exact components, I can tell you from experience that it's pretty much all overkill.

CPU: You're paying $100 more than an i5-4670k and gaining almost no benefit from it at all.
RAM: You gain almost no benefit from higher-speed memory unless you're doing memory-intensive tasks like encoding or using an APU.
MOBO: The Formula is a nice board, but unless you have a really nice headset and don't want to deal with a separate audio card, there's no point in spending $100 more than the Maximus VI Hero (or any other board).

As was stated, aftermarket 780 like the EVGA Classified or HOF edition are far better choices than Titan for gaming, as well as waiting to see what the R290X does.

gaming? 780 SLi is not absurdly more expensive, and it's much faster, also using a $300 or $130 MB is not going to give you more FPS.

A 4670k is going to give you the same gaming performance as a 4770k, but being that I own a 3770k, I can't legitimately suggest to you to purchase one lol. With that said though, both that motherboard and that memory seem way overkill. You could spend 1/3rd the price on a good quality motherboard and get the exact same performance, and unless you play on gaming on the iGPU, that DDR3-2400 memory isn't going to provide you any benefit either.

Save the money and use it to purchase a better video card....or two.

Are you sure? seems like games are begging for more CPU, Especially games like BF3-4.

Why do you have a 1500W PSU? ; You don't need anywhere near that...

I'm also in the 780SLI camp. At least that way you'd be using half of that PSU...

+1
You'll only need around 800-850w for a TITAN/780 SLI, maybe even less. However, I think you should wait for the 290x or TITAN ULTRA to be released, or else you might regret it.

PS: BF3 and BF4 only need 4 cores, so get the i5 4670k. And don't get that overkill mobo and RAM kit. A $150 motherboard and a cheap 16 GB kit of DDR3 1600 RAM is all you'll need.

I have to disagree about a 4670k being as fast as a 4770k in gaming. Gaming benchmarks show the 4770k being around 5% faster on average than the 4670k. It might be even a bigger difference with Watch Dogs and BF4 coming out as early recommendations for Watch Dogs has a i7-3770 or FX8350. Some people don't want to buy the best value for performance either.

The OP also said that he is going to buy a GTX Titan. You can't get any better than a Titan for gaming right now, excluding SLI, although I I think that the Titan costs way too much money for it's performance. A GTX 770 is a good value for the money though but slower than a GTX 780. I recommend that you wait for the R290x and then make your decision. Some people would rather spend more for better performance even though it's not a good value.

as for video cards I am an nvidia fan boy. I will only buy nvidia (for pc's lol)

I will do a bit of research comparing the gtx 780 and the titan

That's some serious cash you're planning to invest, so unless you're into building a system every year, I'd suggest a little bit of future-proofing by going with:

x79 chipset board - you get quad-channel memory bandwidth
4930k
Dual 16x PCIE lanes for future upgrades.

I realize that you're an Nvida fan, but if the new AMD R9 290X is as fast or faster than a Titan for 40% less money, how can you not be intrigued by the Red camp??

A 4770k is better than the 4930k for gaming currently. However the 4930k is a better overall CPU than the 4770k. Quad-channel RAM does nothing for gaming as games don't saturate dual channel DDR-3 1600 bandwidth.

You don't need DDR3-2400 for a 4770k. 4770k does not support faster than DDR3-1600 anyways and you would be wasting money on DDR3-2400, assuming you running CPU at stock settings.

An i7-4770k with 16GB DDR3-1600, Z87 motherboard, and a GTX 780 would be a solid gaming system. Also from what I seen in gaming benchmarks, some factory overclocked GTX 780's run neck and neck with normal clocked Titan minus 3GB VRAM and are around only $10-20 more than a normal clocked GTX 780.

I believe Haswell now officially supports DDR3-1866.

That said, I'd recommend some low latency DDR3 1600 or 1866 over DDR3 2400.

Something like this or this or this.

Go with a 4770K and a pair of 780's if you must stay in the NV camp, and consider what it is you get with the more expensive motherboard.

I just checked Intel's website and it shows that Haswell still officially supports up to DDR3-1600. It's Ivy Bridge-E that officially support DDR3-1866.

What in the name of the wee man do you want with a 1500 Watt PSU in conjunction with a Haswell board?

If you are gaming and you need that kind of PSU then you should be thinking of a 2011 board and CPU.

Why 1.5kW PSU for such a frugal system? I had quad CF and was fine with "just" 1.2kW.
I bet I could power 2 additional titans in my PC with my PSU just fine. When I was building my rig a few years ago, 1200W PSU was the biggest PSU I could find on sale.

Nice choices overall, I'd only change a few things.

1) Save a bit of cash and go with the Maximus VI Hero motherboard.

2) Get a Seasonic Platinum 860w/1000w instead of that Thermaltake PSU. Another fine choice is the Cooler Master V850 or V1000, they're just rebranded Seasonic PSUs. Check the JonnyGuru website for the best PSU reviews around.

3) Get a GTX 780 instead of the GTX Titan (I'd go for the ASUS DirectCU II personally, or the EVGA Superclocked ACX). If you're open to AMD, the new R9 290X should kick ass. The AMD 7990 is also extremely fast and has a great price right now (is a bit loud though). Two AMD 280Xs would be faster and cheaper than a GTX 780. If you want NVIDIA, two GTX 770s would be awesome as well (make sure you get the 4GB models though).

Serious reading failure for the people still suggesting he get a smaller power supply when he said he already owns that one...

OP: Don't get the Titan unless you do GPU Compute and need the unlocked DP hardware. Otherwise get one or more 780s or wait for the R9 290x (coming very soon)
