What do you listen to while working out?

I have a wide variety of interests when it comes to music, but when lifting my tastes are pretty narrow. Here are some that are either on mp3 player when I go or are in the rotation:

Comeback Kid
Hatebreed
Bury Your Dead
Figure Four
Rise Against
Slayer
At the Gates
The Haunted
American Nightmare
Terror
Arch Enemy
On Broken Wings
Killswitch Engage
Unearth
Bleeding Through
As I Lay Dying

I forgot my player last night and had to listen to this terrible DJ playing a variety of crap and occasionally scratching or doing other stupid stuff that no one wanted to hear. I hope they never do that again, and that I don't forget my sansa again.

I have started biking again, so I now listen to a 1hour 30minute trance mix. If I adjust resistance and workout intensity with the music, I can burn nearly 1000 calories in that time.

KT I don't know how you can listen to Dillinger. I like them live, but just can't enjoy more than a few songs if I'm listening on my own.

I dont listen to music when I lift because I want to be aware of my surroundings, safety reasons and all.

But when I do cardio, I crammed my gym only shuffle with AFI, Andrew WK, and the Arctic Monkeys. I tried a little Muse on there, but I noticed it wasn't fast enough and if I zone out I notice my pace tends to keep up to the music.

I find it kicks my ass into the next gear when it comes on. It always does a good job of waking me up if I am getting complacent.

Edit: I think the two sentences I just wrote pretty much say the same thing.

Machinae Supremacy. Mainly because my entire HDD crashed and I no longer have any of my music ripped except MS. They would be one of my first choices regardless though because of the speed of their music. I'd like some variety and some more metal though, like I used to have.

"Now Johnny... This may-
Sting a little? I know.
No, this is going to hurt like a motherf****er"

I spent over a year listening to nothing but AC/DC during my every-other-day gym workouts, always from their 1991 (or so) live 2 CD release recorded on tour. At least 1/2 of that was just one of the songs, Jailbreak!

Lately, I listen to MP3's of my radio show (weekly on KALX, Berkeley 90.7 FM and we stream). I'm a DJ there.

I'm too lazy to bring my ipod. I just listen to what they play in the ygm. Mostly alternative/pop stuff. Some smashing pumpkins with cherub rock and foo fighters yesterday, good enough for me.

Whaddaya mean? Nothing helps me power out of the hole on squat days like Elton John's "Tiny Dancer," or Dashboard Confessional's "Screaming Infidelities."

I started out listening to music, but I don't anymore...I like the silence and clanging of a gym. It's like "me time", kind of like when I shoot pool.

One thing I dislike about my gym - music selection. They play Top 40 pop (current and old.)

Nothing inspires you that last set of deads like some Macy Gray.

I see a lot of guys don't want or need music, which surprises me. I don't look at it like it motivates me: I just find it distracting to hear people talking, several different types of music playing over each other, the clang of weights, etc. I'd rather just block it all out and focus.

I go to a CrossFit gym so I don't bring my own music. They have a Sirius satellite radio that's usually playing some good classic rock or alternative. I would prefer metal, but I'm probably in the minority there.

Nothing while lifting, but when jogging it's anything I'm in the mood for that evokes my imagination.
