What do you love about Windows 8?

Inspired by all the "hate" threads about Windows 8, I was hoping we could have a "love" thread about the new OS.

What features are awesome, very helpful, something new? It is quite likely many of us will have to adapt at some point, so what can we look forward to when we do so?

On a desktop, it is ok.

On a touchscreen however, with a pen, makes it folds better than other devices. With all the benefit of a desktop and hardware peripherals ever done from Vista onward.

Modern IE on a touchscreen. Though needs more setting options and split browsing window panes. And more than just ten tabs.

The touchscreen split keyboard is very nice for most casual semi-lengthy input.

Pen recognition has come along well, 92% in my opinion.

And since I regulated the start menu to my most recent programs, the start screen does that same thing. With at anytime being able to search things very quickly, files, programs, etc by just typing in the start screen and setting the category filters.

I love that I can make it look like windows 7.

New task manager is nice as well.

Fast installation,improved security,longer battery life on my laptop,customization of both Metro and old desktop UI,very stable,fast in general,good hardware support driver wise.


Reset and Refresh plus Task Manager nice features I like as well.

I am curious about this one. Is this a new laptop (possibly with a processor that consumes less power) or has the same laptop been upgraded to 8 and showing the longer life?

Samsung laptop (Intel IGP HD4000 with Nvidia 650m graphics chip)that came with Win7,I upgraded it to Win8 after 6 months,notice the longer battery life after upgrade and yes battery meter does show longer life span on full charge with Win8.

I love the fact that it shuts down and restarts 80% faster than Windows 7

Other than that, I absolutely hate everything about it

starting from the fuxored up UAC that is never disabled completely until you edit the registry which then renders your Windows Apps useless all the way to the slower internet experience

Without derailing this thread I will say UAC is same to me as it was on my Win7,ie don't really notice it and it does not need ANY registry hack IMHO far from it.

Lets see how long this thread goes before it comes another hate thread

IE10 actually makes some attempt at being standards-compliant, which is nice. It *almost* reaches that goal. Now...if it could start trying to move with any degree of speed, that would be great too.

The start hot corner. Being able to jam my mouse into the corner of any display to bring up start is just awesome to me. The fact that it traps input makes it even better, as I would sometimes should past the start button on previous releases. I'm actually a little surprised others (on a local machine) are so upset.

I like the new multi monitor support. Its nice to be able to run separate wallpapers in separate monitors now without a third party app or having to stitch them together with a photo editor.

New task manager is nice as well.

The new task manager is godly and may very well be the single biggest improvement for power users. It does such a better job of showing what's going on, and having the performance tab integrated into it is a big help.

I'd also throw in the charms bar as something I like, for the most part. In particular I'm finding it extremely handy that wireless network connectivity is handled though that; it's much smoother than mucking around with pop-up menus in Win7. Though admittedly this is more a benefit for laptops than desktop users for obvious reasons.

Actually, it's incredibly trivial but I also like the overlays when you're using function keys or dedicated media keys to adjust screen brightness, volume, etc. Before Win8 I never really knew what volume level I was turning my headphones to when I used the audio keys on my keyboard.

Not being able to save stuff directly into root or Program Files annoys me more than the metro interface. I found this workaround.

Avoid using Metro and it's essentially a slightly upgraded version of 7. Better performance, better tools. To me, that's good enough

I love the Stardock Start8 start menu. Without it, I would have had to fork over a bunch for Windows 7 Ultimate vs 40 bucs for Windows 8 pro.

I don't understand #5 (all OS's have one). #4 is subjective, but I'm glad you like it. I also have seen a few of you mention better security. Would anyone care to elaborate on that one? I have always found Windows 7 to be pretty secure, as far as the way I use it.
