What do YOU marinate a steak with overnight before cooking?

Going down to the butcher shop to get some custom cut steaks to cook up for my dads birthday. Was going to pick up some ribeyes or filet mignon(depends on the price), was wondering what is a good sauce to soak them in overnight prior to cooking. I have heard that italian dressing was the way to go, but i have never tried it. Advice on a superior marinate?

Salt and pepper immediately prior to grilling. Don't ruin good steaks with sauces.

Why would you want to ruin a perfectly good steak with a sauce. Put salt, pepper and garlic on them that's all.

I buy them premarinated from the store. Just throw it on the barbie.

Back away from the meat. Please leave the grilling to the qualified.

Do not in any way, shape, or form marinate a filet or a ribeye.

I don't usually marinate steaks, but to do a 4-5lb tenderloin, this recipe is incredible:

1c Worchestershire
1c Soy Sauce
1 clove crushed garlic

to taste:
Garlic powder
Onion Powder
Salt
Pepper

Marinate for 24 hours, then roast filet on rack in a roasting pan.

Don't marinate ANYTHING overnight unless it is a REALLY tough piece of meat. The acids in the marinade actually "cook" the meat.

Corase salt and fresh ground black pepper right before you grill.

If you're feeling fancy, pour some olive oil onto a platter with some fresh garlic (maybe some rosemary) and let the steaks sit in it for a few minutes after you take them off the grill.

Dammit - now I have to go buy some steaks! Curse you Schadenfroh!

Filet and ribeyes get nothing but a little bit of seasoning salt or s&p just before going on. Sirloins can be marinated, and anything "below" sirloin should probably be marinated. As to what to use for a marinade, that's a moot point because you shouldn't be marinating a nice piece of meat like that. You buy that stuff because it tastes good.

Hey, I bought a $100 bottle of whiskey. What's the best mix to make a highball with?

Usually I do not marinade, but once in a while I'll use garlic sauteed in butter or just straight bourbon when I'm sick of the hum-drum.

AHHH... Don't be marinating those! Those would be best with maybe some salt & pepper or perhaps some Montreal steak spice dry rubbed on, imho.
