i bet the 'balance' also shifts - shortly - as x1900 cards are released from ATI . . . x1800 evidently turns out to be a 'stopgap' for ATi.

Yeah, same here ... my s754/Newcastle/X800XTPE still has some life in it!

Also agree on the X1900. Looks like those pixel shader processors will help it gain an edge., judging from early reviews.

I definitely think the previous vs current gen split is caused by agp/pcie as well. If you look at the 'superlatives' page on gpureview.com, you can see how it's a clean sweep for ATI in the 'best of AGP' categories, and a clean sweep for NVidia for 'best of PCIe'. I happen to agree with gpureview's analysis for their picks.

Maybe someone should start a poll of AGP/PCIe results among the ATI X/X1 and Nvidia 6/7 series owners!

XFX 6800GT PCI-E with a zalman vf-700cu-led.

My next videocard will most likely be in the 8 or 9 series, i'm sticking with this thing till late 2007.

I love these polls!
nVidia here!

My History: w/ 1-5 point scale, I'll "try" to be fair

ATI 7000 64MB PCI - 1
PNY GF2 MX 64MB - 1
Leadtek nForce 1 IGP - 2 (1st and only kick-ass IGP... for it's time at least)
ATI 7500AIW - 2 (video rippin' was cool, but 3D sucked)
Leadtek GF4 4400ti - 5
nVidia GF4 4600ti (from a DELL) - 3 (the 4400ti OCed much higher)
Sparkle FX 5600NU - 1 (BUNK!)
S/U/M/A 9500pro - 4 (had 2.8ns RAM!!)
ATI 9500pro - 4 (3.0ns RAM, but still good)
PowerColor 9800np - 3 (my 9500pro's were a much better value, had 3.0ns RAM!)
S/U/M/A FX 5900 128mb - 4 (flashed to a 5950)
EVGA 6800 Ultra - 5 (AGP, power hog, but still a 5... and screw value)
EVGA 7800GT (N518) - 5 (SLI)
EVGA 7800GT CO SE (N516) - 5 (SLI)

nVidia got 27/40 or a 67.5% even counting my IGP mobo
ATI got 14/25 or a 56%

ATI would have had a better chance if I would have bought a X8x0 or X1800 XL/XT card, but Crossfire took too long to come out. So I went with nVidia. And I'll stick with nVidia aslong as ATI has those damn hard-to-find X-fire master cards.

Current: MSI 9800PRO (XT core)

refurbed Crucial Radeon 9100 in wife's PC
Radeon 7000 with iffy fan - now in my Dad's PC made of my spare parts
Radeon 8500 with artifacts in 3D - in closet
Voodoo3 2000 in closet

I had a ti4200 for my wife's PC at one point, but it has compatibility problems with KT133 based motherboards (too much voltage) - so it got returned.

And finally, a vanilla x800 PCI-E that just arrived, that I don't have a motherboard for yet (fatwallet deal).

I just built a system and I went with the eVGA 256-P2-N527-AX Geforce 7800GTX 256MB. I considered the 7800GT and the 7800GT in SLi, but I decided to not spare any expense on the video card. I am extremely pleased with my purchase and I may migrate to dual GTX's in SLi. I play BF2 completely blown out and get zero lag on Iron Gator. As if I'm the only person on the server.

It's rather amazing to see the game for the first time the way it was meant to be presented. I have been a proponent of value for years. The most for my money. But I decided to get exactly what I wanted for once in a PC. I am so thrilled at my performance and much of it has to do with my GTX from eVGA. I wonder if I can purchase up to the new release if it's within 90 days of purchase?

I do video editing and animation (1 and 2 respectively). My video editor works better with fewer device issues with ATI cards. My animation package works better with nVidia, but does not have device issues with ATI. I cannot cheaply upgrade my mobo (dual Xeons @ 533). So, I went with an ATI X800XT AIW. Bonus, it gives me AV->DV in, so I can hookup a VHS deck when I need to capture analog video.

So, what is your story?

I pick X850 Pro because I work with video editing/photo work (adobe) and play around with 3D apps. also I play few games FPS/RTS.

I have a 9800 Pro right now, but my BFG 6800 GS should arrive tomorrow afternoon. I'm still using AGP and if the 7800 GS comes out I may sell the 6800 GS and pick up the 7800.
I'm gonna upgrade everything in 2007.

X800 Pro AGP @16 Pipes.
NOT going to upgrade soon. It will handle Oblivion really good.
And it handles Live For Speed perfectly.

I now own a 6600GT. I plan on upgrading to the New Nvidia part when it comes out, mainly because of heat concerns. Preferred company is BGF but I usually go for the cheapest. Next purchase should either be G71 or G80.
