I tend not to question stuff that people use alot.

For example, if I were to pay $1500 for a bike, it'd be f'ing nuts. I'd never ride it, it'd be $1500 down the drain. Now, when I spend $20k on a car, I use it almost every day. I'm in it some 300-500 hours/year. It's work forking over a little cash for.

A lot of ppl don't understand why i pay a lot for my computer and rebuild every 3 months? or why i have a $450 cell phone but eh.

I'll give a vote to my Powermate. I got a black one for $39.99, it's fantastic! People are like, you paid $40 for...a knob? Then I show them how it works and they want one

I've heard some comments about my $1300. dishwasher, and my $4000 stove. I also love my bottom drawer freezer refrigerator....I never flaunt it...just sometimes people talk like it's their money I am spending :disgust:

Absolutely nothing. I'm thrifty, bordering on frugal, bordering on miserly, bordering on cheap, bordering on lame and boring with money.

FWIW I think $2k on a mountain bike is just fine if it's a hobby you're truly into. It's far more productive than $2k on stereo gear.

I have few expensive possessions. Probably the most absurdly expensive thing I own is my ONNO custom hand made carbon-fiber kayak paddle. At $380 shipped it cost me almost as much as my kayak itself, but it has been one of the best purchases I've made. My original paddle weighed about 5 pounds. This paddle weighs 1.25 pounds and was shaped and structured according to my armspan, paddling style and boat width. Because of the lighter weight and increased efficiency in both the shape and the way carbon-fiber transmits the energy, I can go faster, more easily and for longer periods of time.

1) My computer(s) (bought one, have built 3 more since I started college. Family gets hand-me downs though, so they haven't complained too much).

2) Rebel XT camera and associated gear. Only a 1GB card and a cheap 70-300 zoom so far...

I don't think anyone would look at what I've bought and not understand it. I'm the type of person who only buys things that I need and that are wonderful values. Even if it means I have to wait another 3 months, I'll gladly buy something for 50%, 70%, 90% less than what people pay to have it now.

I see the point in the expensive stove and bottom drawer freezer refrigerator. However, I don't understand the point in the dishwasher. The sad thing is, 99% of the people I know with a ~$4000 stove have never used it. They just liked the looks but don't cook. I hope you aren't the same.

If you have something like this post what it is and why it's worth that much to you.

I'll start. I have a $1,500 bicycle. When you really start to take mountain biking seriously, they're like PCs, and you want better performing componenets. My bike is up to about $1500 right now, and the next upgrade will put it around the $2000 mark, when I can afford it. Why do I do it? Because a nice bike is more fun to ride, and less likely to break and cause you to crash.

One FS mountain bike - $3000
One roadbike - $2100 (got frame off eBay for $500, retails for $1600 )
One Hardtail mountain bike - ~$1000
One 1/8 scale RC buggy - spent upwards $2000 as of now :Q

No one questions the amount I spent on products (such as my road bike) because no one realizes mine cost wayyyy more than their WalMart bike. If I ride along side them, and they notice that I'm coasting while they are continuously pedaling and they ask, I simply point out that I spent more on a bike to get a better bike.

Bet you don't know how to use them!

$900 for a new set of Mizuno irons this golf season. Also looking into a new putter for $140 or so, and a new driver that's $300. Fiancee doesn't understand why I spend so much on clubs every year....
