What do you pay in income taxes?

Now that tax season is over, just a simple poll to see what people around here pay in taxes. Don't include sales taxes, property taxes, vehicle registration, etc. I'm just looking at straight income taxes. Include your federal, state, SS, Medicare, or self employment taxes if applicable.

What was your total bill for 2013?

Personally I paid about $30k last year. And I really don't feel I get my money's worth.

$5700 - Federal, SS, Medicare. Texas has no state tax. I only work about 32 hrs a week due to back problems.

It's depressing to look at how much my wife and I pay in taxes. Last year (I say "I", but it's both of us and I make up 85% of our income) I paid more in taxes than I made my first year out of college.... That can be depressing or good depending on how you look at it... This year we somehow paid slightly less.

Federal= $0
-I worked in South Korea last year so I was exempt from paying taxes. I still have to file.

State (NJ)= $400
-New Jersey sucks. There are only a few states that will tax their citizens even though they worked overseas. NJ and CA are two that do it.

My brother's brother in law collects unemployment and welfare all year. The only time he actually puts in work is during the summer. He gets his electricity, rent, and food all paid for. It's you tax dollars. You guys need to work harder. He needs to feed his children.

The wife did the taxes this year, so I don't know the exact numbers, but it was somewhere in the $6,500 range for the pair of us; I voted for $2,000-5,000 to cover just myself.

Bober, if you'd like to trade tax liabilities, I'll gladly swap incomes with you. I'm just that generous. You can go from feeling like you don't get your money's worth to DEFINITELY not getting your money's worth with the added bonus of not knowing if you'll have enough money to cover rent.

Just under 34K all in. Seems reasonable to me. I mean sure, I would always prefer to take more home, but I don't feel like it's an oppressive number.

Way too much. Like Atomic, I don't know the exact number. I'm right on the edge of the bracket so probably between $7k and $8k. Highest rate I would pay is 18.5%. That gets sent to Revenue Canada and gets divvied up to the province. I never owe money so it all gets taken off my paycheque. That's just income tax though. Doesn't include all the other bullshit taxes we pay in this country.

I'm willing to bet if you saw my lifestyle, you'd keep your own. I also pay child support to the tune of about $25k/yr. Far more comes out of my paycheck than goes into it.

Had almost $40,000 withheld then had to pay in another $3,300 when I filed.

$40,000 was my gross salary back in 2006.

>40k to the feds. They probably used half of it to buy toilets to flush the other half. 33% tax bracket sucks.

Don't know exact number over 20k. Not bummed. Happy we made that much.

Helps having three year old kids.

Be thankful you have the income to put you guys in these higher brackets . I know I am.

I dunno. My tax return says what I paid in Federal Income tax, but I don't know about the rest (state, SSI, etc.) and I don't really want to go look it up.

My take-home pay is about 60% of my gross, but that includes 401k deductions too.

My W2 is on the other end of the state at the moment. I think $5k...thereabouts. The standard deduction messes with the otherwise simple calculation.

<-- Squarely in the 25% tax bracket.

Edit: Oh, the total with SS & Medicare too?
The total ends up being around 20% of my gross pay.

Wow! Am I guessing correctly that half the people here make over $100K?
[and probably a lot of readers here are students]

Has there been any recent poll on income?

I would gladly hand over 33% of my income to the Canadian government instead of >40% knowing that they are wasting it away.

Over 40k.

Paid enough in the last 4-5 years to buy a Ferrari or Lambo in cash.
