What do you think about the Dutch Power Cows?

Hi,
I am a member of The Dutch Power Cows.
And I was wondering what you people think about them.

Because DPC are from Holland (a really small country whith about 15 million people living there). And for such a little countr(about 60.000 km2) we are doing quite good in rc5 dont you think?

I think the DPC are doing a good job. It has nothing to do with the size of the country but the size of the team. The DPC have many more active members than AT does. I have been impressed by the way you guys have been recruiting.

I think the team is doing a good job and most of the members are good people.

The DPC are a model of teamwork.
What the team has accomplished is the stuff management books are written about.
Many of the members of the DPC are terrific people, and the team as a whole is great.

I have great admiration for the accomplishments, and the management the DPC has shown. I wish we could develop the same level of enthusiasm within TA.

Thanks, but I find it quite strange that such a small country can compete with such a large country like USA. We do have more active members, but a lot off them are small users. I know a lot off people who have it running on one computer (one username at one computer) and a lot off the time it isnt a fast computer also. Me and a 3 friends have a small subgroup, one celeron 433 (mine), one Pentium2 400 and one Pentuim3 800.
Does team anandtech have a lot off BIG users? Like companys, schools and stuff??

You must remember that TA is NOT team USA. If it were - there would be no contest. TA is multinational. In TACube alone - we represent five nations (Including the Netherlands)

Were DPC facing all of the US - you would be competing with a 14,000 member team. That's probably the big difference.

We (both teams) represent the MOST ACTIVE of the teams from our individual countries. Is that fair?

HOARDES - or should I say HERDS of them. We (USA) are quite fragmented with many, many teams - In order to have 14,000 participants, with only a couple at the top, this is necessarily the case. It's probably a good thing.

If this were the &quot;Olympics&quot; of distributed computing by country - certainly I'd think the statistics would be a &quot;little&quot; different

MulderDPC, It?s been mentioned hundreds of times that TA is not a US only team. It's full of people from all over the world. If you want to compare YOUR Country to USA, then check this out.

So next time, don't think of TA as an American only team. Its mostly filled with US citizens, but don't exclude us out.

BTW, To answer your original question.. I think the DPC are a great team, and very nice competition to TA.

Yes, for the most part. But remember - even if all the participating members of /. were to join TA - we'd still be getting beat in the daily totals.

Then again, if we look at the percent of people doing RC5 in the Netherlands I think we'd be higher in the charts than the US... It's all a matter of interpretation

After all, this isn't about US vs. Netherlands... It's just cracking RC5.

You must also consider that TA is more than just RC5. Look at the strong presence we have across the board in DC projects.

I don't know about the other projects but I think they are fairing well also.

3400 dutch participants; 16 million dutch people -> 0,212 pro mille
14000 US-participants; 250 million (?) US people -> 0,056 pro mille

So in fact, the Netherlands is 4 times more 'powerfull' when it comes to rc5 hehe...
