What do you think of MandrakeMove?

I just downloaded and burned it for kicks... It beats Knoppix (for me) becuse it works on my system! So far it has worked on all the systems I have tried. It is a very stable CD based OS. It has some interesting USB key posibilities too. I think I am going to take it with me on vacation to use when I am working on my newest web projects.

If you are interested in 'trying' linux out this is a good soloution for you!

I have used many including Redhat, Mandrake, Slack and Gentoo and am semi profficent (due to Gentoo)... What are your impressions of the posibilities for bootable CD based os's?

I suppose it's just like 9.2 only bootable, which means that it would probably be a better linux "demo" cd to carry around than knoppix, considering Mandrake's WindowUser-friendliness.

MandrakeMove is as you say 'user friendly'. It is much more so than Knoppix imo. I believe it is inteded primarily to 'demo' but I will use it because it is fast and has some decent programs (A real telnet is nice for my Cisco classes too).

To me, Knoppix seems more bloated than MandrakeMove. They both have their strengths. The big weakness that Knoppix had for me was that it's kernel wasn't compiled with support for my Geforce Ti video card.

Same goes for almost all modern linux distros.. Something I learned to correct by doing a custom compile from source... But for Knoppix, I don't know if this is possible. Perhaps kernel loadable from a floppy? Or a custom Knoppix disk?

I have not yet figured out how to play a DVD using Mandrake Move. Until I can get that figured out it is not a good demo to take around with you.
