resolved my problem. in the raid bios manager, had to change boot load option to disable. this wasnt a problem on my old msi p965 mobo, but apparently was on the new asrock....

I just saw they put up BIOS 1.50. Anyone use it yet?

Also they still have 1.43 in the "BETA" section. 1.43 mentions some additions to voltage settings etc. The 1.50 doesnt mention those.

Do you know if 1.50 includes all thats in 1.43? Why is 1.43 still in BETA section when 1.50 is in the "standard" section.

Finally does it matter which method I use to update BIOS?
I updated to 1.50 from 1.43a and it seems that 1.5 has internal pll overvoltage, the finer bclock adjustment, and the screen shot ability. It looks like its missing the ability to up the vcore to 1.7v though. Id never dream of putting my vcore that high so I'll stick with 1.50.

Hoping to get time tonight to do my first ever build. ASR Extreme 4 and 2600K.

My question is once I get the thing to POST outside the case, then I guess I should install the mobo in the case and hook up the DVD and HDD to Sata ports. Then what about BIOS and drivers?

Do I begin to load Win7 right away and get it up and running, and THEN update the BIOS? Or do I somehow update the BIOS before anything is installed?

Does Windows add the proper drivers and/or ask me to insert the ASRock drivers CD? When does this happen?

Once I update to BIOS 1.3 let's say, if I'm having problems can I reflash to 1.1? Or am I stuck with those BIOS forever?

Thanks and bear with me, I'm new at all this.

You can update the bios before installing Windows. You need a fat32 formatted usb stick. Download the bios from the Asrock site and update from within the bios. Updating the bios is not necessary though, only if installing Windows gives problems with the old bios.

Download all available drivers from the site as well. Drivers on cd's are usually old stuff. Windows will just install the generic drivers upon install so you need to replace them yourself.

You can flash back to an older bios, but obviously you need to save it somewhere first.

Apparently they decided to skip a few numbers and leave the 1.43 in beta state. Not uncommon.

I would recommend updating the bios from the bios itself. I've heard about problems with Windows based bios update utilities.

I just upgraded to 1.5 BIOS. Voltages are different now. The BIOS voltage matches much better now to CPUz. But, now its dropping significantly during load where before barely changed and I think it went up if I'm not mistaken. Time to readjust my OC.

hi i was 1st using it with the bios version it came with, but i was experiencing the random crashes. so I updated to the latest version and problem still persists, today the motherboard just will not pick up the Ethernet controller, i have tried everything, new drivers, system restore, windows just says it cannot fin the Ethernet controller.

Im just going to buy a new board and get this refunded.

Chris.

I had this, are you using xfast? uninstalling brought back my ethernet adapter. Also don't let windows update with optional :Accusys Inc. - Storage - ACS-6xxxx as this also meant devices would not show an ethernet adapter present. I'm still using the 1.4 bios.

Has anyone flashed back to an earlier bios?

Hi yes I was using xfast, i just brought a new motherboard, i was fed up with all the problems I was experiencing, with the asrock, hope others have better luck than I did. And I was running xfast didn't make much of a difference for me.

The ASUS p8p67

I would of probably done more troubleshooting first before changing boards,Asus P8 P67 is probably the most problemactic board you can buy(lots of threads on issues with this board) anyway you may be lucky,I would of went Gigabyte or MSI if I had to choose between Asus,Msi,Gigabyte.

Ironically Asrock P67s are probably the least problemactic boards you can buy.

I have been watching this thread http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18233075 and looks like the board I'll be buying.

Had this board for 2 weeks+ now after having to RMA the Asus P8P67 Pro.

So far this has been a fantastic board packed with lots of features and aditional software including the XFast usb software and the AXTU tuning utility plus others.
If I had to buy another P67 board again I wouldn't hesitate on buying either the Extreme6 or the Extreme4.

I think that's the general consensus about the Asrock Extremes .

oh don't get me wrong I loved the extreme4 (when it worked), but I just had so many problems with it, & I needed a full functioning computer to complete my school work, so the easier option was to replace the board. And so far so good, touch wood not had 1 problem in 3 days now, computer has been on for a 3 days and not crashed.

Chris.

out of the frying pan and into the fire eh?

I built my ASR Extreme4/2600K on Saturday, and knock on wood its working great. I really like this ASR mobo - this is my first ever build.

Too bad all of us will be surrendering them under the new Intel recall just announced.......

I'm still running the shipped 1.1 bios... any compelling reason to upgrade if nothing appears to be broken? The only issue I have seen is the tuner program will not show my mb temp, but otherwise everything seems fine.

Nope, not if you are not having any issues. I was having some lock up issues that I think it has fixed. My chip is still the same chip no matter what and 4.4GHz is the sweet spot no matter what happens with the mobo. Anything after 4.4GHz and its big bumps in volts and heat. Maybe someone else might have something more compelling to say.

now that we've all discussed the recall thing a little.....

I've got Ripjaws 8gb 1600 mem in my ASR Ext4. Bios says its 1333. Is this consistent with your experiences (those with the ASR board that is)?

I haven't bothered fooling with it yet, but can I just reset the bios to 1600? Although my understanding is the real world performance is minimal so maybe I won't even bother, but just wondering.

No. My Ripjaws 8GB 1600 showed as 1600, but now have them at 1866 and 1.545v

For those of you who are OCing your ASR Ext4.....are you doing it in BIOS or from the "ASRock Extreme Tuning Utility"

Does it matter?

Also, WHERE in the BIOS do I actually set VCore? I am at work so don't have the PC with me of course, but looking at the instructions guide for the EFI Bios, it talks about a line for Offset Voltage and DRAM Core Voltage, but I don't see one for CPU Core Voltage? Is it there but under a different label?

Hi all!

I'm am having problems with the USB 3.0 ports of the Asrock P67 Extreme4.

I can't use some of my USB2 devices on it:
Logitech webcams, Nokia E52 phone, USB modems, USB TV tuners.
The only devices I can get this port to work are storage devices: USB memory sticks or USB 3.0 HDD.

While the specifications of this motherboard state that the USB 3.0 port is compatible with USB1 and USB2, currently it doesn't seem to be the case.:'(

All drivers and BIOS are the most recent versions. W7 Ultimate 32 bit.

This motherboard has the Etron EJ168A USB 3.0 chip which is a newcomer in the USB 3.0 business. This chip costs less than 2 $, while the NEC chip which is on the Asus motherboards costs around 4 $, but at least it is backward compatible with USB2!
The Etron chip is another "cost effective" solution which affects the users.

It is nice that we get the USB 3.0 panel kit, but it would be even nicer if the USB 3.0 port would work according to the specifications.

Can someone help with the incompatibility issues?
Thanks.

I'm considering the ASRock extrmeme 4. Anyone have any clearance issues if you're running RAM w/taller heatspreaders?
