throchrist: You got it right, the first time we met we became rivals. Usually we'll reach an agreement eventually, but noone is leaving without a huge debate.

Alright Tripleshot, I understand it says similar, but that doesnt mean the Samsung warranty is any worse than KDS'.

Kind of funny huh 2 similar monitor you can't say which is best sort of like 2 girls you can't decide which to go with
so why not get both instead
2 is alway better right?
twice the fun?
It nail down to hmm I buy which either cheaper
which ever has better warranty
Personally I probably stand their look dumb for at least
half an hour making some research, but then again it all
personal preferences.
I have a 17 proview monitor that I seem to like OK
but I have heard other that say it sucks
I just don't agree, cause it just doing me fine and quality is good enought for me.

throchris:

I highly recommend the KDS monitor.

KDS's staff is most helpful if you have any questions. If for any reason your monitor fails within the first 90 days of purchase, you get a BRAND NEW one shipped to you, and you just package up the other one and send that one back, free of charge.

Their tubes are well made and the price on the KDS is definitely competitive. If you haven't noticed already (by reading other threads, etc), I have a KDS AV-21TF - the 21" version of their Avitron line. This monitor is a beauty and it simply blows me away since the three Sony G500 I tried do not even compare (and they are made with the same tube!)

I think you will be very satisifed with KDS monitors, their support, and their attention to detail. (esp. when it comes to satisfying the customer!)

I don't doubt that the Samsung monitor is a good buy, but I figured I'd throw in my 2 cents because you came into this thread asking about the KDS AV-195TF and now you're going with a Samsung.

I have an AV195-TF and I love it. I have seen it side-by-side with a Mitsubishi and it blew it away. Following my recommendation, 2 of my friends have bought this model and they are delighted with it.

The Samsung has $30 rebate of their own so it comes down to pretty much the same price.

I bought a KDD AV195TF @ Best Buy last week, I was able to compare
it to a 19" Viewsonic ( Triniton ), and a Sony 17" and I picked the KDS. The display geometry is excellent ( I cannot perceive any error ). The KDS does seem to run warm, so keeping it in a non restricted
space is not recommended. I don't have a non restricted space in my computer desk, so I have installed a 110v. Muffin Fan to move the airout the back of the monitor opening. Works like a champ. KDS all the Way. Radarman

I'm still trying to figure out the comment by ccc:
"Samsung has a flatter tube that the KDS".....???

How flat is flat? Unless CCC you were looking at their regular CRT monitors under the Visual Sensations line. The tubes have a little curve to them and they advertise them as "square and flat". The Avitron line is FLAT.
By the way:
Throchris: I own the AV-195TF. The first one I got was hot at the top of the grille so KDS RMA'd it for me. They had FedX pick it up the next morning (their costs) at 11 30am. The same FedX man returned just 22 hours later with the replacement. It seems these Trinitrons do run rather warm so if your monitor is enclosed that would affect your decision. I place the Cool monitor fan on top and it's just warm to the touch now. There is a minor flaw in the geometry at the top right corner as it looks as if the pincusion is out but when I expand the horizontal lines you can't even see it. My first AV-195TF was OK. I have two other KDS Visual Sensations monitors, all are working OK.

bluezebra1098: Dead wrong, Sony only claimed the FD Trinitron as virtually flat, and it has been measured that it's not totally flat, it curves slightly at center. DiamondTron NF however, is claimed as natural flat, measured as 100% flat.

Ill tell you how to measure it, get a ruler, and measure from a corner to the opposite corner diagonally. Since the ruler's edge is straight, you can clearly see the screen is curved.

Did as you suggested and...
If there is a gap there, I can't see it.
The screen is flush up against the ruler all the way across.

I went as far as breaking off a yard stick at 18 inches so that i could get it flat to the glass.

No curve..at least visible to the naked eye.

Oppps...can you say "naked" on this forum?

CCC: I never commented about you having an opinion on which is better...I was just lost when I saw the flat comment. I looked at the sites but I just can't see it in the glass on my monitor. If it is there I can't see it.

bluezebra1098,

In my previous thread I pointed out that Sony G400
which uses FD Trinitron tube is not PURE flat,
it is flat but still curvy along the horizontal.

Here I quote so you don't have to look through the whole
post :

here is the review for Sony G400 (FD Trinitron) :
http://www.dansdata.com/sg400.htm

and these are the pictures that I am talking about :

Since KDS got the tube from Sony, it applies to KDS monitor
also (only the KDS AV-195TF).

Either way, I am not saying that Sony or KDS monitors are
not good, they are great.

I'm just saying in my previous post that Samsung 900NF
in fact has a PURE FLAT tube (not like KDS or Sony).
This helps reducing glares and eyestrains.

bluezebra:

I'm afraid they are correct; there is an EVER SO SLIGHT bulge in the tube of the Sony FD Trinitron monitors. I have a KDS AV-21TF and it has it too. It's so small I couldn't tell it was bulging until the people in the forum brought it to my attention.

If you hold a smaller ruler - say 12 inches - up to it, diagonally, [upper left and bottom right] and then push gently against the screen, you can shift it to the upper left and then to the bottom right (kind of like a see-saw) because of the bulge. The bulge would be a fulcrum, I guess.

Lore:
I tried to "see saw" it to see if it was there and I couldn't feel it or see it.

My point is: If it is there it is negligible.

I hope I get to see an Avitron in 21 inches one day. It must be a monster!

bluezebra:

Yes, negligible is a good word for it.

This monitor is a BEAUTY. It's pretty big, but I'm already used to its size. It's especially handy for webpage editing and graphic design. Oh, and having two or three SecureCRT windows open

Doomguy: WTF? The colors looks just as good if not better on a DiamondTron monitor. The only real advantage FD Trinitron has is slightly smaller dot pitch.
