What do you think of Uncharted 2?

The game is fun but I'm definitely disappointed with the visuals...as usual there's loads of aliasing and low res textures (par for a lot of PS3 games unfortunately although I didn't expect that with an exclusive). Cutscenes look pretty good though.

As for the gameplay...what's with the "off" switch for a door alarm being like 10ft away from the door (they couldn't have made that any different??!!)? I'll reserve judgement for the rest of the game as I've only played like 10 minutes.

EDIT:
Played a bit more...visuals look better than the first game for sure but nothing ground-breaking IMO.

EDIT:
Played a lot more...the game is definitely fun and funny at times too. The banter between characters made me laugh a couple of times. I'm also starting to appreciate the graphics more...the effects are cool (although water seems to be the same as the first one) but the textures still bother me...oh well I'm sure I'll forget about 'em soon enough.

EDIT:
About the scaling, I set the PS3 to output the game at 1080p (game is output at 720p but is scaled by the PS3) instead of using the monitor scaling and it was really pixellated at edges compared to when the game was output at 720p and the monitor was scaling it.

EDIT:
Just finished the game...good, fun (and funny at times) story and overall I'd give it a 9/10.

Does it have those stupid zombie spaniards from the first one? I hated the end of that game.

Did you look around for a box of hats to throw at the door alarms?

Judging a game on 10 minutes of gameplay is... silly to say the least.

Disappointed in the graphics? Not for me. Lots of little things, like the first one. When his shirt was wet, and looked different. Then dried from the bottom up, as a real shirt would. The snow on his jeans after running around in it, etc. Im 5 chapters in, and stopped. As far as Im concerned the graphics are very good. Probably the best of any console game Ive played. The lighting is very good, explosions are fantastic, and I think texture detail is very good. Every review I have read, say the same thing. Its a great looking game. As far as consoles go, the AA looks very good to me. IGNs review says "Absolutely the best of the best these days. Your jaw will drop." when summarizing the graphics.

I do agree that the alarms struck me as odd. I expected more. But I guess they just want to give you an obstacle, and not something to spend an enormous amount of time on. You really cant find the box, go into it and pick what wires to cut to turn it off. I guess it served its purpose.

And Chloe's voice fits her to a "T".

edit, I should add that Im not defending the game. Everyone has a different opinion, and Im sure not everyone will like it. I didnt like halo 3, and it got Rave reviews. Different stroke.

I know...that's why I said I'd reserve more judgement for later on. The game does look nice but I don't think it's as great as the reviews made it out to be. It looks like it will be fun though...I really enjoyed the 1st one.

i wont get mine till tomorrow or thursday, but i know the graphics are going to be amazing.

hell i still tihnk uncharted is the best looking game tihs gen, part 2 has to be better looking.

also OP, are you running in 1080p or 720p? i THINK i heard the game is 720p native, and the scaling to run at 1080p could be hindering some of the visuals.

but again, i dont have it yet, that is just what i heard.

Best looking console game I've ever seen...easily.

Yes the hype for this game is high and annoying but it is real and justified.

This game deserves huge scores and high praise. After around 3 hours, I'm stunned by the level of overall quality Naughty Dog put into it.

It's the Gears of War 2 of the PS3 platform, stunning, exciting, and loads of fun.

Also, the first line of a thread for Uncharted 2 saying "I'm definitely disappointed with the visuals" is like the first line of a Forza 3 thread saying, "I'm definitely disappointed with the handling".

Hard to take anything else in the post seriously at all.

Well...it's running at 720p but scaled (ie. aspect ratio is kept the same) on my monitor. The game does look good but maybe I'm just spoiled by some PC graphics.

I'm sorry but I've seen better graphics (hence why I don't think it deserves some of the praise for its graphics it's gotten in reviews). MGS4 is up there for me. And as I said above...maybe I'm spoiled by PC graphics in some games. I just really don't like low res textures and aliasing (but I'm willing to still play the game of course since I'm sure it will be fun).

I think MGS4 looks amazing, no doubt, but when you look at the meticulous level of detail in the set pieces and environments in Uncharted 2, I think it's head and shoulders above MGS4 overall.

Love both games, they both have their place, but Uncharted is over a year newer, and it shows.

As for PC games, I will agree when you hike up a PC game to 1920x1200 maxed like Crysis, yeah, it looks better, but even on the PC, there aren't many games at the level of Uncharted 2 IMO.

I was actually very impressed with Uncharted 1 back when it came out when I was comparing it to other games...moreso than I am with Uncharted 2 now. Go figure.

I'm also playing it with a computer monitor...maybe that has something to do with it?

What I love so far:
The AI seems a bit better. I ran out of ammo and heard one of the enemies shout "He's out of ammo!" as they started to move forward.
Gunplay is better than the first. I can't explain it, but it seems more fluid and easier to aim.
Sneak attacks are fun.
The making of videos. This was also one of my favorite things about the first. I love a company that doesn't need a "collector's" edition to include making of videos.
MULTIPLAYER! From what little I played of the demo, coop can be fun if you find the right people.

What I don't like so far:
The animation blending is weird. In melee fights Nate looks like he's made of rubber, flip flopping between animations like Gumby.
The graphics are way too dark. I had to readjust my TV just to play this game.

that's why I loved Uncharted and loving this sequel.

The voice acting is like no other in the world of video games. They actually stress a quality of acting that rivals movies, while even in other top notch games the voice actors drop the ball on occasion. Not so with Naughty Dog for the Uncharted series.

Best voice acting I've heard in gaming. The voices all match the characters and personality perfectly.

I cannot wait to play more of this game today. Got through the first two chapters last night, all I had time for. The platforming elements, just like in Uncharted, are amazingly constructed.

Am I one of the few who absolutely loves platforming elements in just about any type of game? It's why I loved Resistance 2 - perfectly balanced levels of platforming with FPS.
Infamous had a nice blend of platforming, especially with the very classic sewer platformer levels.

I just used the slider in the options menu to bump up the brightness. I'll probably do that a view times during play, depending on the lighting in the scene. Not too much of a hassle imho, because depending on the brightness level the quality of colors is amazing.

I love this game a lot. I pretty much had to force myself to stop playing so I could get to work on time this morning. The helicopter sequence was one of the most awesome things I've seen in a video game. The level of detail was amazing. I finally started and finished MGS4 2 days prior to getting Uncharted 2 and honestly, I like Uncharted 2 in every way, shape, and form over MGS4... including the graphics. The attention to detail is stunning. Just my personal opinion obviously. Of course I may be biased since Uncharted was my favorite PS3 game prior to Uncharted 2 being released.

Minor gripes? None. I'm not a nitpicker unless something is absolutely annoying or there's an obvious problem. I'm just not seeing it with Uncharted 2.

Wow I truly do sound like a fanboy, but oh well. I can't wait to get home and play some more today.

Have only played the multiplayer so far but I really like the graphics especially for the maps that weren't in the demo.

The frozen map with the trains I think the visuals are amazing and are among the best of any console game to date. I don't know how it compares to PC games since the newest game I've played is WoW:WotLK

Really enjoying it so far. It's exactly what I hoped for, in a sense: Uncharted 1 with a new story.

There's obviously improvements to the gameplay, but what gets me the most is the storytelling and adventure aspect, which was done superbly in the first, is just as solid so far this time around. I wish I could get some time with it tonight, but USA Qualifying and a Pub Quiz will keep me from my PS3.

You talking about the courtyard? Is so ***Possible Spoiler***

Go to the ledge that Flynn is crouched by. Jump down, and take the one guard out at the pillar. Stay to the right of the fountain, and there is a small balcony past it. Three guards are up there with flashlights. Climb up the wall to the balcony, staying unseen and hand from the railing. When he walks next to you, hit square and it will drag him over the rail. Hop up and over, and Flynn will join you. You go to one side of the hall, and him to the other. You each take one of the last two guards out.

That part took me a while. I kept on trying to take out all the guards. And started out going left. There is no need, you only need to take out 4 guards. Not all 8 or whatever it is.

Can't wait to get it. I pre-ordered from wal-mart since I had a $10 off coupon. They said it shipped, but I have no idea when it will get here. I think the estimate when I ordered it was 10/18 to 10/23

Instead of starting another thread, I'll ask here. Is there a way to turn off PS3's game upscaling, or is unchecking 1080P/leaving only 720P checked the only way? I ask because the XMB looks really blurry and aliased on my set with 1080P off, but Uncharted 2 looks worlds better (no more darkness issues)

Anytime I climb up and hang on the balcony, I make a sound and the guard hears me!

Make sure the guards with the flashlights are facing away, press X only once to jump and hang onto the balcony, then once more to jump up. Then when you're on the rail immediately hit square to knock out the guard then drop back down and wait for the other guards to turn around again.
