Rice wins out over all. First of all , pretty much all asians enjoy eating rice. That includes: China, Korea, Japan, India, Pakistan, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos. That is pretty much the majority of the world's population right there. Then you factor in that most western countries dont mind eating rice and often include it in their dishes, France, Spain, Germany?. I would say rice is the over all winner. I bet if you had some random asian taste pizza, he/she would hate it because of the cheese.

are you kidding me? asian people are very picky about the rice they eat. the crap uncle ben rice they serve at school taste like cardboard!

best thing they serve is cereal, can't mess that up.

But rice as a whole is universally liked, specifically steamed rice. And even if it's not their preferred grain or stickiness, they're not going to be disgusted by it. CEREAL? A lot of people are lactose intolerant, so i wonder how you get cereal as teh most universally liked food? Most people in asian countries dont even eat cereal.

I wouldn't say rice. Rice isn't universally "liked". It may be consumed by the largest amount--but that can be attributed to a contained and well-populated demographic.

If you want "universal" by maximum cultures/countries I'd guess its probably going to be bread or beef.
