It doesn't have enough power for games, so just basic work tasks are done on it. Upgrading soon

I use my lappy (i8600 with 1.6ghz Pentium M, 512 ram, radeon 9600PT) for gaming, internet, and university stuff, but I also take it with me when I travel.

I'd say though the % breakdown for my lappy usage is 40% internet, 40% gaming, and 20% school. I have my priorities in the right place

Been using laptops for the past 5 years now and have never turned back. Don't use a regular desktop except for purely server related tasks.

LAN Gaming, Internet, DVD burning, GPS when mobile, Sat tuner when camping, HDTV anytime.

HDTV is a surprise.
You may think, with small screen, why?
In reality, a 17" laptop screen will give you about the same viewing area that a 100" DLP screen does.
17" screen is about 2 ft away. 100" is about 14 ft away. Equals roughly same viewing area.
Recommended viewing distance is usually 1.5x screen size, so laptop is perfect.

I have 3 gaming desktops, but this laptop is what I prefer to use everytime.

Mostly browse forums but I regret not getting a widescreen laptop since I watch alot of dvds but its alright since the screen on my Thinkpad is pretty good. LCDs might not be as sharp as CRTs but it causes alot less eye strain for me when using at extended periods.

I use my laptop for school and the internet. It has integrated graphics, so I won't even try gaming with it. The screen seems like it has 1 second response time which would make gaming really suck. If I *scroll up* it'll ghost. Movies are fine on the 15" widescren though. I have a stuck (green) pixel that has to be in the best position possible. It is where the green note for my iTunes button is and blends in perfectly, so I can't complain.

I put school, but I do everything. I finally left my desktop home. It has a 9700, so games work purdy well, but I don't really game much. I use it to write stuff while on the bus between campuses (up to 2+ hours a day.....) and to work on stuff while downtown (plus listen to music and browse the 'net).

I've been a pgmr/analyst for 25 yrs. Bought my first PC over ten yrs ago. I've never owned a desktop. I do everything on it - programming, art, graphic art, web design, poker lol, like i said, everything. I'm a self-employed contractor so I do a lot of work from home. With wireless I can be anywhere in or around the house. Have thought about a desktop as a server. On my 5th ThinkPad now but have a Dell 9300 on order. Gonna check it out. Hate leavin' Big Blue but IBM is just not offerin' cuttin' edge ThinkPads now.

Mostly I use my laptop as a mobile recording studio. I have a 16 channel externasl rackmount soundcard that connects to a PCMCIA or PCI card. I have a desktop when recording at home but when playing shows, I bring a 6U rackmount and my laptop, is pretty nifty. I can then transfer to the desktop for CPU intesive editing\directx effects.

Secondly I play games on it, alot of games.

I was using a Inspiron 9100 with 1 Gig o ram and a 3.2HT processor, really handled it well. Now I'm on an XPS2 with the 2ghz and a gig o ram. Haven't got to test fully, but I'm guessing the HT processor would handle things better than mobile, but like I said, most editing is done on the desktop anyway. So now I have a super gaming laptop that will still handle my recording needs.

I use my powerbook for pretty much everything here at school. I decided that I didn't need to bring my desktop PC with me this year, and I haven't had any need for it so my choice has seemed pretty good. I use it mostly for taking notes in class, keeping me occupied while running reactions in the lab, playing world of warcraft, browsing the net, talking online, lite photo editing, web design (with the macromedia MX04 suite), listening to music, watching some DVDs, etc... normal college student stuff. I also store a library of all my work on here, lots of slides from classes to study, etc...

I see a lot of people use lappy for internet that is good. School/college comes in second...I wanted to go back to college but any lappy is not suit for heavy graphic work (I am leaning toward graphic major) like Maya, 3DS Max and some of Adobe programs. One of these day I hope to buy a better lappy to meet my major. Will see what the future holds.
