replaygain is not a must; however it just makes a whole lot more sense than turning the volume control up and down for every single song. it attenuates clipping too!

asio is a low latency protocol mainly used in recording industry. we as music listeners use them too as you can bypass windows kmixer and thereby avoid nasty wacky resampling algorithm you are stuck with either waveout or directsound. kernel streaming achieves pretty much the same end result, you can chose either one.

foobar comes with a standard 18band parametric EQ. convolver works well too, but there are equivalents for winamp so this is not necessarily a plus.

I can't decide if I like Foobar2k or Winamp 5 better for a Windows environment but my main system is an Apple and there arn't too many options so iTunes is growing on me.

Foobar has got to be the least user-friendly player I have ever come across. Do they actually expect me to fiddle around with their proprietary language and code just so I can customize my Title Formatting? Yeah, I've got better things to do with my time. The crappy interface is a shame too, because otherwise Foobar2000 is quite advanced and has very sweet audio playback as well as support for an endless number of audio file types.

im an artist and i also enjoy copious amounts of music. so, to accommodate* my listening needs, i also want a program that appeals to me aesthetically also. foobar2000 can fight terrorism for all i care, but if it looks like one of my early vb3.0 'hello world!' projects, then im not going to bother with it.

also, friends use my computer to listen to music, and its what they are most used to. i have my playlist manager the why i like it, the hot keys the way i like them, sometimes most feature-rich isnt always the best way to go. user-friendly controls and design go a long way.

i dont have anything against anyone who wants to use foobar, but wouldnt you agree sometimes it comes off a little bit like elitism for those power-users? all my audio files are mp3, with the most recent ones encoded at 320 kbps max vbr. im content with winamp, and thats the reason i continue to use and support it. but i truly do appreciate your input on this.

Can Foobar read ID3v2 yet? Don't tell me it needs a plugin

Edit: just installed and it still can't, at least not without some serious tweaking. It has an option to automatically delete ID3v2 tags but not read them. To you, Foobar, I say OMGWTFBBQ? Have you seen the maximum length allowed by ID3v1?

A good quarter of my tracks have broken filenames in Foobar.

Winamp 5 it is.
