I'm in an information-giving mood tonight (until I pass out from exhaustion) so I'll start:

Most of the time I watch the Discovery channel, the History channel, TLC, the Simpsons, or the Invader Zim episodes I've managed to download (read: fsck you Nickelodeon).

what are your favorite channels?

EDIT: for news I watch CSPAN, CSPAN2 and BBC exclusively.

At first I thought you meant what shows (since your thread title doesn't indicate favorite TV channel).

Mine are:
NBC
MSNBC
ABC
CNN
NGC
DIS
APL
HBO

and some others.

I'm really not a big fan of major network programming, but to each his own. I should mention that I watch other channels too, but the ones I listed above (my first post) are the ones I watch most frequently. I'm watching Discovery now, some show about fireworks is on (actually, it is the same fireworks show that was on last year around the 4th of july; yes I know it's technically the 6th).

ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN Classic, Fox Sports Net, Discovery Channel, TLC, sometimes the History Channel, sometimes E!, Comedy Central, MTV and VH1 when they're actually playing real music (i.e., rock)

I love it whenever they show the nerdiest programs like "inside the Pentagon" or "super structures" or "the human body" or some stupid stuff like that.

I only like major networks because of shows like Ed, The West Wing, ER, The Practice, The Sopranos, etc.

I never really got into The Sopranos, I've seen a few episodes, but not enough to really get me hooked. Band of Brothers on the other hand; I love.

Other than that, I really don't care, because when you have a Tivo, you watch the shows you want without caring when they're originally on or what channel they were on.

Really? I was the opposite. I liked BoB a lot when it first started but I could really follow each other characters development through the mini-series (they all looked the same to me).

I'm a total Sopranos junkie.

I wish they would have turned CBS's mini-series "Falcone" into a full fledged TV series.

A tivo would be great, I'd never miss a show due to work or sleep again, but sadly I can't afford one. I don't even have a real tv. I'm watching tv on my computer as I type this.

Tell me about it PVRs rock. I got in on a great deal with Mercata.com's 20% off, MSN Passports 20% off, $100 rebate AND free shipping on a Replay TV3060 (30 hour unit) back in November 2000. It's nice not having to rely on VCR Plus codes anymore. Just enter the TV/movie title and/or actors name and it searches all the channels for you, pause live TV, and a lot more.

How much was it overall, or how much do they retail? I'm not sure. I could search I guess, but I'm too lazy

Vadatajs - AVSForum.com is your best resource for PVRs and is a wealth of information.

My ReplayTV 30 hour unit cost $217 after the 20% off, and 20% off, $100 rebate and free shipping.

Right now your best bet is to buy a TiVo on clearance from your local Walmart or Target, they have some TiVo 20 hour units discounted as low as $79. Unfortunately most of the shelves have been picked clean months ago by Hot Dealers but I'm sure a handful still remain on the shelves.

People have also scored good prices at Best Buy on OPEN BOX units, that's usually at the managers discretion on how much the discount is. A few months ago a co-worker bought an open box TiVo for $99 from Best Buy, the only thing it was missing was the warranty card everything else was there and worked like a charm.

If you have satellite TV or are considering satellite TV I would strongly suggest getting a DirecTiVo, I don't know much about them but everything I've heard has been good so far.

There's also Microsoft's UltimateTV and another product, can't remember the name right now.

It's been about 2 weeks since I have watched TV.
I realized a while ago that TV was a big time waster even though i used to watch TLC, Discovery and FoodTV a lot.
But now, I seem to have so much free time since I have forced myself to stop watching TV.

<---- Enjoying time doing other stuff than TV....

I forgot about FoodTV, Iron Chef rules.

Thanks for the link RossMAN, I'll check it out. Is there a monthly fee on the tivo?

Vadatajs - You're welcome.

Unfortunately one of the many reasons I prefer ReplayTV over TiVo is their monthly fees (ReplayTV has none, it's built into the cost of the unit which for my $217 was a flaming hot deal). It's buried in their website but I found it in their FAQ (click on "How much does a TiVo DVR cost?") that it costs $12.95 per month or a lifetime subscription of $249, ouch!

I also noticed a DirecTiVo $99 special for new customers on their website at TiVo.com (purple writing in the lower middle).

Another resource for buying a new PVR which I forgot to list above is eBay.com, a few bargains can be found there. That's a direct link to their Digital Video Recorders section which currently has 420 active auctions.

Damn I think I found a good auction, haven't looked at all the details yet or verified the sellers status but my first search for ReplayTV yielded this auction.

Assuming everything's legit, a good seller and no monthly fees that'd be very tempting to bid on. Esp with the hacked higher capacity 150 hours, oh damn I just looked at it closer and it looks like only the upgrade stuff and not the actual unit, bummer.

WWE, soccer, golf, baseball, etc.

Sometimes I tune in to Discovery. I also watch quite a few movies from the movie channels.
