Their response to that should be worth a few laughs.
That's funny!

Nah! Just about everyone who participated in this was banned.

I am sure you guys are forgetting Bruce Lee vs Coke

I know myself and at least 20+ others got the 1 week boot for answering either Bruce Lee or Coke in one thread.

Ask The Ethicist if you're considering taking some of the get-you-banned advice. I doubt he'd agree with the banned. Buying a replacement seems like the right thing to do, but I'd call Netflix first -- maybe they don't mind a broken DVD once in a while from an otherwise good customer?

Edit: OMG didn't realize how old this thread is. What happened in the end?

How long does a thread have to go without any posts until it gets archived?

90 days I believe. However there is an option available to the mods that will prevent archiving.

I wonder. Would making the same comment made above get you banned even after the thread is over?

This sounds like the way I'm gonna go.

Thanks Nocturnal.[/quote]

Some of the disks are not the same as retail. They are a generic grey color. Just check to see if its the same before you mail it. I know they don't care about lost ones, I've lost 2-3 over the 4 years I've been with them. Never had one destroyed though.

edit:holy old thread.

Just for future reference, here's the Netflix phone number:

Please contact our
Customer Service
department at:

1-800-585-8131
Mon-Fri 6am - 7pm PST
Sat-Sun 6am - 2:30pm PST

I do have a question though:

I heard that movies on VHS tapes come in two varieties: one is the standard cheap retail consumer tape you buy at Wal-Mart. The other is an expensive heavy duty tape meant to be played over and over again which takes a looong time to degrade, which is the kind the video rental store buys.

Is there a DVD equivalent, or are they all the same discs?

I'm almost afraid to post in this thread...the ethical approach would involve paying the replacement, but as the mods have found out there are not that many that post here.

hmm, well there are different grades, just go through the tape isle, u can prrobably go by price alone.

as for dvds. one company just released a new disc with more protective coating against scratches and what not. costs more of course. forgot which company, but shouldnt be hard to find, it wa s amajor one. course theres also the quality of the data layer, if that breaks down over time.. bad. cheaper discs more likelyt o. i've seen stress tests for cdr's where different brands performed rather differently. probably same for dvds, but its rather confusing since you gotta find out which company actually made your disc. the label brand just buys from suppliers. cdrinfo or cdfreaks websites might help
