I have an XG dragon.... it has 3 80mm vantec stealths one bottom front intake one side panel intake and a back outtake. So I build my pc and all is good right??? NO! My mobo jumps up to about 52C during a 30min gaming session or dual priming so i remove the side panel and have a high rpm house fan blowing in the side. Now the mobo is at 34C and CPU is at 37C....So does this mean my case has bad airflow??? Im also on a seasonic 500w and according to pc probe the vcore is flucuating anywhere from 1.33-1.38 when i set it to 1.35, I know thats not accurate. Any ideas??? Ive reseated my Zalman 9500 3 times so thats not the problem...I also used as5.

mm,, Make sure you use the right amount of as5, and what do u mean ur Mobo temps,, as in pwmic temps? or chipset temp? My Ultra D had really really high pwmic temps like up to 57+, so i took the stock fan off my amd stock cooler and taped it right above the pwmic heat sinks, and they imediately dropped to 35-40 top. SOOO it wasn't a case of bad airflow it was a case of NO airflow, a DEADZONE where the pwmic was. So i reccomend doing something similar, very easy, and if ur creative it won't look bad through ur window either.

What motherboard are you using? Is this the chipset temp or an ambient sensor? three vantec stealths is, imho, nowhere near enough air to cool any kind of high end rig.

Ok I am using a A8N32-SLi Deluxe. I remounted my zalman for the 4th time and put a rice grain sized drop on the cpu and remounted the heatsink. Im getting nearly the same temps as before. I realize now I should have bought some high speed tornado fans but I really dont have room so I may buy a small air conditioner for around 40$ at home depot to help cool this beast.

you shouldn't need tornado fans. The fastest fan in my computer is the one on my zalman 9500 @ 1650 RPM. The others are anywhere between 1200 and 1000 RPM. System is quiet and currently with F@H running my CPU is at 41*C and the MB sensor (wherever that is) is reading 30*C.

like inveterate said, you may just have a "dead spot" in your airflow. Try and figure out what that sensor is monitoring and put a fan over it. Even a low RPM low airflow fan can do wonders for something like that, just gotta keep the air moving a little.

Update reinstalled as5 and I spread it out. With a house fan blowing on case im reading 49C Full load CPU and 34C mobo...I dont understand I put a thermometer on my zalman heatpipe and its reporting 32C...After 5 remounts its gotta be the sensor. I mean a damn 300mm House fan right on it is still giving a 49C load temp on cpu????NO WAY BIOS temp is wrong.

dude, like what's ur ambient temp. and you have to wait for arctic silver to settle which can take a while,, the difference in temps prior to settling can but around 4 C depending on how much u put on.. RICE GRAIN SIZE, people just don't get it sometimes..

A small about one foot diameter fan that plugs into an outlet..I just take the side panel off and run it straight on and I get great temps and im fine with it.

Summertime has come and temperatures are on everybody's minds.
My ambient is 28C. working temp 38C. mobo 32C, load 44C .
My LL PC-60 has add-on Yate Loon fans, three 80mm and one 120mm top exhaust.
Another choice, PC-7B with four 120mm Yate loons would be ideal .
A slot fan for my GPU. Generic AMD HSF.
Using a pen temp sensor to get actual temps is nice.

My case sucks man 189.99 and it has 3 slots for 80mm fan. I got ripped. I think I may buy a Thermaltake armor because I like the huge working area in the case.

before you got your current pc, didn't we tell you that xg dragon case was not only ugly but was a poor cooler for your parts? 120mm fans make a world of a difference for airflow at more than half the noise... but thats only IF you wanna get a new case...
try to fix up your cable management to get rid of all the wires blocking the sensor or airflow, consider modding your case to add a 120mm fan somewhere inside to blow onto the heatsink thats heating up. its not your as5 if your temps go down with a house fan blowing on it.

Modding the front of the case to hold a 120mm fan would be very simple. A 120mm would be a tight fit but, should squeeze into the rear. I take it you already added an 80mm fan to the side pannel? You could add another 80mm or a 92mm to the lower grill to help cool your video card. Finally a 120mm top blowhole would help A LOT.

when my computer was in my dorm room before they turned on the AC systems this year I'm guessing it got to at least 28*C or higher. I had no thermometer but it got uncomfortably warm in there. My OC'd 3700+ @ 2.86GHz would top out around 48*C under full load running prime95. That is where my Asus Q-Fan control is set to kick the fan up to full speed on my zalman 9500.

Now my comp is at home in an air-conditioned house kept at 23*C so I don't go over 42*C load now

My case has good airflow in it, 120mm fan in the front, 140mm in the back. If you only have 3 80mm fans that could be a problem there. I'd recommend a new case, or modding your current one for bigger fans

The LL has a better engineered cooling effect. Having a 120mm front intake fan would make a 4/5C cooler difference on your CPU temperature.
Not to mention the cooling effect on your harddrives.
I turned off my front intake fans and checked my cpu temp afterwards. From 36C up to <42C was the result at 28C ambient. You do the math.

I would try one of those large slot blowers to help get air out of that case. I know when I replaced the stock cooler on my X1900XTX with an Accelero X2 which does not blow air out of the case, my mobo and cpu temps increased 5c higher than w/ the stock cooler. A pci slot cooler helped lower the temps back to pre-Accelero levels.

Is there anything wrong with running this housefan by the side? I mean I turn my pc off when im not using it so I think its fine because I can hear if it turned off or something. Im getting 33C idle on my cpu now and 30C on the motherboard.

The case temp thermal sensor is located near the center HS on the heatpipe (just to the memory side) on this MOBO (A8N32-SLI-d). If your HSF blows down (towards the MOBO) the temp readings are high. Also, have you removed the clear plastic protective tape from the two lower heat sinks on the heatpipe? Other than that, this MOBO just runs hot. Good case airflow is a must. Some have reported that the latest BIOS (1205) runs cooler (5-10*C) at idle.

save for the lian li pc 7b. i'd suggest the v1000 from LL, but i dont suggest you mount your motherboard upside down.
